John P. "Skip" Griffin

Seabrook Beach, NH – John P. “Skip” Griffin, a loving and dearly loved husband, father, son, brother in law and friend, died at home on Tuesday, October 7, 2014. Formerly of South Glastonbury, Connecticut, he lived in Seabrook Beach, New Hampshire. He was born in Springfield, MA, February 2, 1941, the son of the late John P. and Mary Jane (Murty) Griffin. He leaves with cherished memories and enduring love, his wife of 51 years, Pauline (Delisle) Griffin; his sons, Keith Griffin and his wife Amy of Shoreline, WA, Kevin Griffin and his fiancée Valerie Ortiz of Shoreham, VT; daughters, Lynne Wainman and her husband Brad of Glastonbury, CT, Kim Whitehouse and her husband Jim of Hampstead, NH; grandchildren, Lauren and Eric Wainman; Ethan and Collin Kepler; and Danica, Shane and Kali Whitehouse. In addition, he leaves his family, his wife’s family, including several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and his many friends. Raised in the Greater Springfield area, he graduated from Cathedral High School with the Class of 1958. Following graduation, Skip attended and graduated from Saint Anselm’s College in 1962 where he met Pauline at a dance. He later received his Masters from the University of Connecticut. Skip took pride and enjoyed working with youth during their formative years as a teacher for 40 years at Glastonbury High School. During this time, he also coached GHS girls and boys swimming and boys baseball. For a number of years he was a high school basketball official in the Greater Hartford area. His summers were spent as the Club Director and Swim Coach at Orchard Hill Club in Glastonbury, CT where he made many friends and spent time with his family. Skip will be remembered for many things – his ability to motivate others to grow personally, inspire others to be their best, his strength in character, his love of nature, his enjoyment of fitness, gardening, golfing, and long walks on the beach – and most of all, for his loyalty and commitment to his family and friends. In addition, he loved sports and was an avid Boston Red Sox and UConn Huskies fan. Visiting hours will be from 2-5 P.M. Sunday, October 12, 2014 at the Remick & Gendron Funeral home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH. A celebration mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, October 13, 2014 in St. Elizabeth Church, 1 Lowell Street, Seabrook Beach, NH. Burial will be private.
