Allaire B. Nownes

Exeter, NH – Allaire (Blake) Nownes, 86, of Exeter, formerly of Hampton, died Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Exeter Hospital. Allaire, daughter of the late Dr. Roger N. and Virginia (Carr) Blake, was born in Oradell, NJ September 27, 1927. Mrs. Nownes was employed by Area Homemakers – Family Services Agency in Portsmouth as a homemaker and as a scheduler in the office, retiring in 1990 after 15 years of service. Mrs. Nownes’ service to her church and community included being a 42 year member of the First Baptist Church of Hampton and a current member of the First Baptist Church of Exeter. She served both churches as a deaconess and Sunday school teacher and was active in the women’s and music ministries, and as a missions coordinator. She was a member of the Christian’s Women’s Club of the Seacoast and was involved with many bible studies in the area. She served on the board of directors for the Area Homemakers of Portsmouth, was a volunteer driver for the former FISH organization and later the Ecumenical Transportation Committee. She shared 61 loving years of marriage with her late husband, Frank R. Nownes. Family members include, two sons, Harry R. Nownes and his wife Virginia of York, ME, Roger F. Nownes and his fiancée Jacqueline Gentile of Salem; three daughters, Bonnie Hightower of Newmarket, Jennifer Duclos and her husband Aimé of South Berwick, ME, Jinny Downes and Michael Sawyer of Penacook; three grandchildren, Ryan and Colby Downes, Forest Joy Nownes; four step grandchildren, Brian Duclos, Lisa Flynn, Larry Claus and Jared Nownes; seven great grandchildren, Damien and Kaelan Claus, Joshua and Madison Nownes, Brooke and Jack Flynn and Makenzie Pettis; five brothers, Norris Blake of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Ben Carr Blake of Romeo, MI, Randel Blake of Crownsville, MD, Geoffrey Blake of Exeter, Roderick Blake of Greenland; sister Sandra J. Blake of Alexandria, VA; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by her sister, Deborah Kirwan. Mom was a loving, generous, kind woman who touched the lives of everyone she met, and we will miss her greatly. Visiting hours will be from 3-5 P.M. Sunday, October 6, 2013 in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Services will be held at 10 A.M. Monday, October 7, 2013 in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Exeter Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
