Barbara Ann Lyon

Rye- Barbara A. Lyon, 80 of Rye and a former longtime resident of North Hampton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by those she loved, on Monday, September 26, 2022 at Webster at Rye. She was born in Cambridge, MA on September 29, 1941, a daughter of the late Robert A. and Albertine (Wise) Newcomb. Barbara graduated from Wakefield, MA High School with the Class of 1959 and Mount Ida Jr. College in Newton, MA. She was a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines and later owned and operated the former Post Road Grocery in North Hampton. She was also a school lunch monitor at North Hampton Elementary School and Winnacunnet High School. She leaves her daughter, Suzanne Tomaszewski and two grandchildren, John Walter and Katie. She also leaves her extended family, Mary and Tom Lambert, Tommy Simmons, Jennifer Delamere and her husband, Peter, David Simmons and his fiancée, Tina Fontinie Tzortzakis Bowden and Sarah Ravencraft and her husband, Greg. She was a beloved Auntie to Eric, Emily, Michael and Brian, and a beloved Nana to Sam, Hannah, Joshua, Julia, Abel, Sophia, and Alden. She also leaves her siblings Dexter Newcomb, Dana Newcomb, Elizabeth Bourcier, Charles Newcomb and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her companion of over 30 years, Dale H. Simmons. Her greatest joy was being a mom and a Nana and being surrounded by those she loved. Dale’s sister, Mary, was one of her closet companions who took wonderful care of her after Dale passed. There was a special connection between them that was plain to see. Barbara was always up for an adventure and loved to travel. She and Dale spent much of their time traveling all over; favorite destinations included St. Maarten and upstate New York. She loved horses, country music, and a good prank. She also enjoyed trying her luck at a casino, going out to eat for fried seafood and ice cream, and attending local New England fairs. Barbara also enjoyed shopping, getting her nails done, and putting a nice outfit together to go with her pressed jeans. Her family fondly remembers how she was always the most put together out of all of them when they would go out anywhere, even when she was always the last one ready. She liked to take her time, and heaven help anyone who tried to rush her. Services will be held at 11AM on Monday, October 3, 2022, in the Remick and Gendron Funeral Home - Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Burial will follow in the Center Cemetery, North Hampton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Massachusetts General Hospital, Brain Tumor Center, Yawkey Building, 9th Floor, Boston, MA, 02114.
