Charles Richard Murdoch

Hampton - Charles R. (Dick) Murdoch, 84, of Hampton NH, formerly of Beverly and Reading, MA died Saturday November 5, 2022 after a sudden illness. He was born in Medford, MA September 18, 1938 a son of the late Craig and Priscilla (Spinney) Murdoch. Dick was raised in Reading and graduated from Reading Memorial High School with the Class of 1956. A member of DeMolay, he attended Lawrence Academy, Colby College, received his bachelor's degree from Babson College and his M.Ed from Salem State University. Mr. Murdoch taught at Robin Hood Elementary, Central and Stoneham Middle School in Stoneham, MA from 1966-2000. A defining quality in Dick's nature was his love for people. He made friends everywhere he went. He volunteered for many different organizations from the Parks and Rec in Stoneham to coaching JV and Varsity baseball in Reading. He served as the Boosters club president, volunteered at Portsmouth Regional Hospital and coached his three sons in several sports. After a long day teaching Dick had various side jobs from a rug cleaning business to a chain of laundromats. He was a voracious reader and an avid runner. Consuming crime and mystery novels and running everyday, sometimes twice. He could never sit still, everything he did was in service to another and his family. He had boundless energy right up to his last hours. Dick shared 61 years of a loving marriage with his wife Pamela (Swain) Murdoch. Every Saturday night Pam and Dick would dress up and go out dancing. They would dance to anything, the faster the better. He loved music ranging from the Beach Boys to Nat King Cole. His children will remember the impromptu dance sessions that would break out on Sunday mornings with the Beach Boys and Elvis Presley playing on the stereo. Dick and Pam spent their last years in Hampton, near the beach where they would walk the sands and swim in the cold Atlantic. He was loved and will be missed by many. In addition to his wife he leaves three sons, Richard Murdoch and his wife Caroline of Dcrry NH, Timothy Murdoch of San Diego, CA, Stephen Murdoch and Kristin Grunzweig of Monson, MA, four grandchildren, Craig and Dylan, Grace and Thomas, four great grandchildren, Colyn and Maya, Elias and Eleanora, two brothers, David Murdoch of Port St Lucie, FL, Robert Murdoch and wife Karen of Naples ME. Visiting hours will be from 1 - 3PM, Thursday November 10 at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton NH. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
