David H. Rimbach

Rye, NH -Gratefully loved and sadly missed, David Haugh Rimbach, 95, passed away peacefully at home on January 7, 2026. Born in Waltham, MA on September 9, 1930, he was a son of Frederick and Anne Rimbach. Brought up to work and play on the farm homestead in Acton, MA, he hayed, tended animals, and picked apples from the orchard. After graduating from high school, David proudly served in the US Navy on the destroyer, USS Dyess, as a machinist's mate during the time of the Korean Conflict. Upon returning home, David earned his engineering degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology and took further studies at Northeastern University. His career began at Bailey Meter Company. As an instrument and control engineer, he engaged in long-term startup operations for power plants in a variety of places, including Brazil and the Dominican Republic. From the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, he went out to sea trials. Later working for Public Service of New Hampshire, David was the overseer of all PSNH power plants. Called on day or night, he was the troubleshooter who could solve the impossible; he always said he would pray on the way to work, and God would give him the answer to the problem. First and foremost, David was a devoted and loving husband and father. His favorite pastimes included racing hydroplane and stock outboard motorboats, skiing, camping, gardening, traveling, inventing, repairing, watching sports and sitting in the sunshine. He loved fellowshipping with family and friends. David was a longstanding member of Rye's church in the center of town where he worshiped and served in many positions. Surviving family members are: his wife of 58 years, Sharon (Hertz) Rimbach, children Maura (Rimbach) Howe and her husband Stephen of Hampton, Mark Rimbach of Boston, Eric Rimbach and his wife Angela of Texas, and his dear grandchildren Sea and David. In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his siblings: Robert, Shirley and Philip. A memorial service followed by a reception will be held at Rye Congregational Church, 580 Washington Road, Rye, NH 03870, on January 23 at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to one of David's favorite charities, World Vision.
