Donald F. Mitchell

Newington, NH – Donald F. ‘Mitch’ Mitchell, 90, of Newington, passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 29, 2022, after a period of failing health. His loving wife Pat and daughter Jennifer were by his side. Mitch was born in Beverly, MA, on September 9, 1931, to the late Harry D. Mitchell, Sr. and the late Alice (Neal) Sangster. He was one of eight children Donnie graduated from Beverly High School with the class of 1950. He was a Korean War veteran, serving with the US Air Force. His post-military working career began with the White Barn in North Beverly, a well-known landmark established in the 1960s. After moving to New Hampshire in the late ‘70s, he owned and operated a landscape and asphalt paving company before establishing North Hill Nursery and Hearth Shoppe in North Hampton, which he owned and operated with his wife for 24 years, before retiring in 2014. He shared 44 years of marriage with Patricia J. (Sullivan) Mitchell, the love of his life and best buddy. He lived a life working hard but also had the gift of playing just as hard. He spent 30 plus years at their camp in Maine, fly fishing in the great north woods, and wintering in Tortola, BVI, Sarasota, FL and Naples, FL. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by all that knew and loved his larger than life spirit. In addition to his wife, he leaves four daughters, Robin Delaney of Topsfield, MA; Kim Costas of Middleton, MA; Sherry Murphy of Beverly, MA; Jennifer Mitchell and life partner, Burk Daggett of Redmond, OR; his sister Dorothy Crete and husband Andy, of Bedford, NH; the mother of his children, Jeannette Mitchell of Beverly, MA; eight grandchildren, Orest Manzi and wife Lia of Marblehead, MA; Mitchell Delaney of Kittery, ME; Brendan Delaney and wife Melissa of Georgetown, MA; Kyle Braude of Boise, ID; Whitney Owens and husband Matt of Prineville, OR; Alex Costas of Portland, ME; Danielle Costas and life partner, Dave of Middleton, MA; Rachel Murphy of Medford, MA; five great grandchildren, Hayden, Liam, Olivia, Zoe and Wilder; and many nieces and nephews. He also is survived by his sister-in-law Gail Petroccione and husband Joe of Danvers, MA; and brother-in-law John Sullivan and wife Stephanie of Silver Spring, MD. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter Lorna Mitchell, grandson Matthew Murphy, five brothers and a sister. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 A.M., Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at the North Beverly Cemetery, 685 Cabot Street, Beverly, MA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. A celebration of life will be held on September 11, 2022 from 1 P.M. to 5 P.M. at the Grill 28 on the Pease Golf Course at 200 Grafton Road, Portsmouth, NH.
