Dorothy Mae Arseneau

Amesbury, MA - Dorothy Mae Arseneau, a lifelong resident of Amesbury, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 4, 2024, at the age of 93. She was born on July 26, 1930, to the late Joseph and Laura (Martin) Lapre. Raised in Amesbury, Dorothy graduated from Amesbury High School, Class of 1949. While still in high school, she met the love of her life, Robert, and the couple exchanged vows in 1951. Their early years together were marked by joyful travels, with fond memories of adventures in England and Scotland. A dedicated and loving mother, Dorothy devoted herself to raising her family. She and Robert welcomed their first child, Roberta, in December 1956, followed by identical twins Germaine "Jerry" and James "Jim" in May 1958. In their younger years, she was active as the PTA Secretary and in 1978 she earned her Real Estate Broker’s license. Above all, Dorothy provided unwavering support to her children, guiding them through life's challenges with love and strength. An avid enthusiast of the arts, Dorothy frequented the theatre in downtown Amesbury and had a particular fondness for lighthouses, with Nubble Light House holding a special place in her heart. Her love for the seacoast and travel enriched her life as did spending time with her grandchildren and, more recently, her great-granddaughters. Known for her magnetic and vibrant personality, Dorothy was a true socialite who carried herself with simple elegance. Her impeccable sense of style left a lasting impression on those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Left to cherish her memory are her son Jim Arseneau and wife Pam of Methuen, MA, along with grandchildren Justin Arseneau and wife Shay, Kyle Arseneau, and Brianna Doughty. She is also survived by her beloved great-granddaughters, Rylee Rey and Addison Rose Arseneau, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was predeceased by her daughter Roberta Doughty, son "Jerry" Arseneau, sister Jeanine Gosselin and brother Jim Lapre. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am, March 14th, at Holy Family Parish, 2 School Street, Amesbury. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
