Eugene H. Fournier

Hampton- Eugene “Gene” Fournier passed away after a long illness on May 5 with his wife of 71 years and three daughters at his side. Gene grew up in Everett, Mass. He attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School through Grade 8 and graduated from Everett Vocational High in 1951. He married Joan Beverly Yeo in 1952 at the age of 19. In 2022, on their 70th wedding anniversary, the couple renewed their vows in a ceremony led by their middle daughter, Susan Fournier. Gene began his career as a machinist at Sanborn Company in Cambridge, MA and later Waltham, MA. He became an employee of Hewlett-Packard in 1961 when H-P acquired Sanborn and entered the medical electronics field. Gene stayed at H-P for 33 years where he served as Fabrication Section Manager until the operation was outsourced to Asia. Gene, aka Geno, loved his social life and community. He was the President, Treasurer, and Manager of the Franco-American Social Club in Everett for over ten years. After his retirement and looking for something fun to do, Gene and Joan purchased a bar on the corner of Main and Avon Streets in Everett. They named it The Frog Pond after the neighborhood marsh where he and his brothers played and caught frogs in their childhood. They managed the bar for fifteen years. Gene was a ravenous fan of the Patriots and Celtics. A proud holder of seasons tickets for the Boston Patriots when they played at Fenway Park. Gene waited 20 years for his first Super Bowl win and later saw his dreams come true when Brady and Bellichek delivered six Super Bowl wins. Gene loved gardening, golf (with one hole-in-one to his credit), relocating squirrels, playing poker and pinochle, classic Cadillacs and Lincolns, dancing, grilling for the neighborhood BBQ, weekend gatherings with family and friends, chicken wings, double-yoked eggs (identified through his signature technique), Chinese food, and —no kidding—making spreadsheets for anything that could be tracked. As President of the Drakes Landing Association where he and Joan purchased a home in 1998, he designed a landscape and lighting plan that included flowering trees and evergreens and is still enjoyed by residents today. Gene had a deep faith in God and the Catholic Church, beginning with his service as an alter boy and ending with many years as an usher at the Lady of Our Miraculous Medal in Hampton, NH. Above all else, Gene loved his wife and daughters dearly. He took great pride in the accomplishments of his kids and grandchildren. He lived vicariously through their professional and personal adventures and looked forward always to their visits, stories, and conversations. Everyone knew Gene. Everyone remembers him as a fun-loving man who loved life and lived it to the fullest, always with a smile on his face. Everyone will miss him. Gene is survived by his wife Joan Fournier, three daughters and their spouses, Leslie and Jim Giallombardo, Susan Fournier and Morgan Evans, and Lisa and Steve Norton, and two loving grandchildren, Carleigh Norton and Nathan Evans. A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday May 14 at 11am at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church on 289 Lafayette Road in Hampton, NH.
