Freddie P. Zona

Rye - Freddie (Dee) P. Zona of Rye, New Hampshire passed to her eternal life on Thursday, August 31, 2023. Freddie was born in California and was the daughter of the late Fred and Mary (Lobrovich) Thomas. She graduated from the University of Northern Colorado and began her teaching career in California where she met and married her husband John in 1963. They were blessed with two daughters Jeanmarie and Michele. She was also a writer and wrote an activities column and feature articles for Massachusetts town newspapers. Freddie earned her Masters Degree in Education and Reading and continued teaching in Mass and NH until retiring. She also tutored privately. She hosted a children's education reading program on Mass public television called “Let Your Wings Take Flight”. Learn the joy of reading. The family resided in Southboro, Mass, Memphis, Tennessee and Westford, Massachusetts. Freddie and John moved to Rye, NH in 1991 building their retirement home on land purchased in 1986. She was a member of Bethany Church in Greenland, NH and attended afternoon bible study classes. She was a member of the Rye Library and their book club. Freddie was an avid reader and loved living near the ocean where she felt the calming effect of nature as a beach stroller and gazer. Her husband, children , grandchildren and friends were very dear to Freddie and of the utmost importance in her life. She enjoyed and cherished the special time spent with her grandchildren, family and friends. Freddie was predeceased by her parents and her daughter Jeanmarie Z. Morel, who passed away from cancer in 2016, her sister and brother-in-law Marlene and Howard Lowell of Colorado. She is survived by her husband John, daughter Michele Billings of Texas, her son-in-law, Daniel Morel, and grandsons Daniel-John Morel and Leo Paul Morel. A sister Hope Zangl of California and a brother Fred Thomas and his family of Colorado, as well as many loving and caring nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Freddie for a memorial service on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in the Remick and Gendron Funeral Home, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. A private interment will be held following the memorial service at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
