Helen R. Sherman

Rye - Helen Robinson Sherman, 86, died September 4, 2021 at Webster at Rye surrounded by her loving family. Helen was born August 17, 1935 at the United Fruit Company Hospital in Tela, Honduras. She was the daughter of the late Earl Clay and Antonia (Rodriguez) Robinson. Helen, was predeceased by her husband of 59 years Sanford Chace Sherman in 2018. Helen grew up in El Progreso, Honduras and moved to Chesterfield, NH in 1945 at the age of nine. She was a 1954 graduate of Keene High School and a graduate of Pierce Business College, Concord, NH. Helen worked with special needs children for over ten years at Little Harbor School in Portsmouth, NH. Helen was well-known throughout the community as she was an active member of the Garden Club, spent many years volunteering at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, and was a Paul Harris Fellow of the Portsmouth Rotary Club. In addition to being a great mother to her daughters, her pride and joy were her 7 grandchildren who fondly called her “Mimi”. Her grandchildren remember her for her kindness and sense of adventure and always having fresh out of the oven chocolate chip cookies whenever they were around. Helen enjoyed many years of traveling the world with her husband Sandy, cooking & baking, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends. Helen is survived by her two daughters; Lisa Dumont and her husband Michael of Hampton, Susan Foye and her husband Donald of Kittery ME, seven grandchildren; Laurel Dumont of Weehawken, NJ, Thomas Dumont of Hampton, NH and Ashley Foye of Newport, RI, Ryleigh, Madison, Tanner, and Oscar Foye all of Kittery, ME, one brother; Norman Robinson and his wife Claudia of Billerica, MA., and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother Charles Robinson and her identical twin sister Evelyn Wood. A private service will be held to celebrate Helen’s life at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ‘Hands to Honduras Tela’, 190 Red Tail Lane, Charlotte, VT 05445, or the ‘Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’, 322 Eighth Avenue, 16th Floor, New York, NY in honor of Helen. The Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory of Hampton assisted the family with arrangements.
