Jane Adams

Hampton - Jane was born on February 27, 1934, the middle daughter of Dr. Donald and Nora Durman. She grew up in Saginaw Michigan. After her high school graduation, she attended Albion College where she graduated with a Bachelors Degree in education. Following their college graduations from Albion College & Hope College respectively, Jane married her high school sweetheart, John Adams in June of 1956. Following their wedding, they went to Boston Massachusetts where John would become a student at Andover Newton Theological school as he studied to become ordained as a Congregational Minister. Jane worked for the national offices for the Congregational Church during this time. After John’s ordination, they would live in Ohio, Michigan, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Connecticut. Jane took a very active role in the life of the church and enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom with her two children in their growing up years. When her children reached college age, Jane attended Katherine Gibbs school in Boston to update office and secretarial skills which enabled her to work as an executive assistant, which she did until John’s retirement. Upon retirement, Jane and John moved to Hampton, NH as both children were living in the area and they always enjoyed the seacoast. While they lived in other states, they always enjoyed going back to their home state of Michigan in the summer season where they would vacation on the shores of Lake Michigan and have many enjoyable times with family and friends. In retirement, Jane lovingly cared for her mother who came to live with Jane and John as she had been alone for many years and was then in her 90’s. She was a joy to have and they had many family gatherings which she enjoyed. Jane was a devoted mother to her two children and family time together was always very important to her. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining, dancing and had a good sense of humor and always enjoyed being with good friends. She also enjoyed traveling and her last trip was to Ireland and was a special place to visit and walk the streets of the birthplace of her maternal grandfather. Jane was predeceased by her beloved husband John, her parents, her sister, Patricia Schwartz, her brothers in law, Dr. Bud Parks and Thomas Schwartz. She is survived by her children, David and his partner Christine Kelley, Elizabeth and her husband Bill Chislett, sister Marian Parks and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
