Jane P. Kilcoyne

Rye - Jane Power Kilcoyne, 89, a longtime Seacoast resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Webster at Rye. She was born on July 25, 1935, in Dorchester, MA, the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Leary) Power. Jane shared 56 years of marriage with her loving husband, James R. Kilcoyne Sr., until his passing in 2021. Raised in Flushing, Queens, Jane was a graduate of St. Agnes Academic High School. She pursued higher education with determination, earning a bachelor’s degree from St. John's University in 1957, followed by a master’s degree from the University of Southern Maine, and both a master’s and a doctorate from Harvard University. Jane went on to have an extensive and rewarding career in higher education and consulting, and served on the boards of many executive and charitable organizations. A devoted member of the St. Theresa Church community in Rye Beach, Jane cherished her time serving there. She was also a past president of the Rye Art Study Group and an active member of the Rye Beach Club and Portsmouth Yacht Club. Jane had a deep love for art, antiques, and crossword puzzles--passions that reflected her vibrant spirit. Jane will be remembered for her kindness, energy, and enthusiasm. She was a strong supporter of women's rights and a champion for equality, leaving behind a legacy of advocacy and compassion. Jane is survived by her children, James R. Kilcoyne, Jr. and his wife Becky Koch of Montclair, NJ, and Julia C. Kilcoyne and her husband Kevin Farrington of Watertown, MA. She was a proud grandmother to her two grandsons, Henry Joseph and William Power Kilcoyne of Montclair, NJ. Jane was also the beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews and served as a mother figure to many who will miss her dearly. In addition to her husband, Jane was predeceased by her dear sisters Nancy McLaughlin and Margaret Fitzmaurice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Jane at St. Theresa Church in Rye Beach at 11 AM on August 14th, followed by her interment at St. Andrew’s By-The-Sea Churchyard in Rye Beach. Reception to follow at the Abenaqui Country Club
