Joan T. Gannon-Traynor

Hampton – Joan T. Gannon-Traynor, 65, of Fort Myers, FL and Hampton, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2021 at her daughter’s home, surrounded by her loving family. Born to the late Walter J. and Catherine G. (Holland) Hart on August 19, 1956 in Medford, MA. Joan was raised on Lockland Ave in Framingham, MA, where she made infinite memories with her siblings and the other families of the neighborhood. Joan’s childhood summers were spent at her family’s cottage on Buzzard’s Bay where she relished activities such as fishing and family boating excursions, as well as frequent visits to her Grandma Hart’s nearby cottage. Joan attended St. Bridget’s School in Framingham, MA and graduated from Framingham North High School with the Class of 1974. Joan was a standout athlete playing both softball and her favorite sport, field hockey. Joan also loved ice skating, was a yo-yo trickster and her hula-hooping skills were top notch! Joan loved playing and watching sports and being active, including her newest love, golf, which she shared with her close friend, Rich. During her college years, Joan worked at Giovanni’s Restaurant in Framingham, MA, one memory she loved to look back on, was working late nights at the take-out window, “raking in the tips” as well as at McDonalds where her friends and family would often receive a bag, she “loaded up” with food at the drive through. Joan went on to receive her associates degree in Medical Records Management from Massachusetts Bay Community College in Watertown, MA, eventually landing her first job in the field at Mount Auburn Hospital. Joan lived in Hudson, MA when her daughter was young, working locally at Marlborough Hospital for a time. Joan had an accomplished professional career in Health Care Administration, where she made countless lifelong friendships that she truly treasured. Joan is very fondly remembered by all who knew her for her remarkable sense of humor and ability to make others laugh, both in the workplace and in her personal life. She spent many years working at the ambulatory centers of Blue Cross and Blue Shield, in addition to The Fertility Center of New England, Smart Corporation, New England Hematology and Oncology, Kindred Hospital, Saints Memorial Hospital, and eventually retired from Nuance Communications. Her knowledge of her field, dedication and vigor for work made her a truly coveted asset to each company she worked for. She shared 25 incredible years of marriage with her late husband, Peter M. Traynor, who predeceased her in 2015. Together they enjoyed making memories with family and friends at their Boars Head home and later their home in Fort Myers, FL, where they also enjoyed the warm sun and beaches of southern Florida. One of Joan’s favorite events was attending the St. Patrick’s Day Red Sox Spring Training game in Fort Myers with her whole family, a tradition she continued after Peter’s passing and will be continued in their memory. Peter was the love of Joan’s life; they had a very special bond and a relationship one can only hope to experience in their lifetime. Prior to purchasing their home on Boars Head, Joan and Peter shared a love for camping which was how they met. Joan was very proud to own her own camper when her daughter was young, just down the street from her parents’ camp site. Boating was also a hobby Joan enjoyed, owning numerous boats with her husband through the years. Joan was also an avid music lover, her favorite artists included Liza Minelli, Judy Garland, Barry Manilow and Gloria Estefan, to name a few. Joan took delight in the memory of taking her own Mother to see the Broadway show Camelot back in the 90’s and the mother-daughter Broadway event tradition continued with Joan and her daughter going to see the Broadway show Get on Your Feet just a few years ago. Whether it was a sporty Mustang, a sleek Range Rover, a cool Celica, or her fun Mercury Monterey, Joan was always sure to arrive in style, occasionally allowing for a passenger but would rarely, if ever; would she share the keys. Joan’s compassion and dedication to family were always at the forefront, including ensuring her parents safety and longevity by moving them into her home in 1995. Her care for them was truly heroic and selfless. Joan’s love for her family was also evident in her strong bond with her daughter and later, her grandsons, creating endless memories every chance she got. Joan took great pleasure in raising her daughter, celebrating all her achievements, and always ensuring she had the tools needed for success in life. As a family, they found time to travel, going on numerous cruises, taking trips to Disney World and her favorites were the staycations at her condo in Fort Myers where she enjoyed watching her grandsons swim in the pool and taking day trips to the beach and shopping. While the loss of Joan at such a young age, with many dreams yet fulfilled, sits heavily on the hearts of her family and friends; as one of our forefathers once said, “In the end its not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years” and Joan’s short 65 years were filled with infinite love and life, and those memories will live on forever. Family members include her devoted daughter, Kristin M. Casado of Hampton, NH, adored grandsons Sean Orlando and Connor James Casado also of Hampton, NH, her beloved siblings and their spouses, Elizabeth Gatturna and husband Ron of Cape Coral, FL, Mary Tesmer and husband Bernie of Marlboro, MA, Jane Lambrenos and husband Jimmy of Worcester, MA, Thomas Hart of Fort Myers, FL, and Michael Hart and his wife Mona of Framingham, MA, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends including Richard Ganzer of Fort Myers, FL. Joan is also survived by her former husband and her daughter’s father, James M. Gannon of North Reading, MA and The extended Gannon Family as well as her former son in law, Victor O. Casado of Hampton, NH. Visiting hours will be from 5-7 P.M. Friday August 27, 2021, at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M. Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 289 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may gather at the funeral home at 9 A.M. on Saturday prior to the mass. Burial will be planned for the Spring of 2022 at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, FL, where she will be buried alongside her parents and with her husband.
