John "Jack" E. Duffin Jr.

John “Jack” E. Duffin Jr., 88, of Hampton, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023, surrounded by his family after an extended illness. He was the loving husband of 66 years of Margaret "Peg" (Gaudreau) Duffin. Born on June 8, 1935, Jack was the son of the late John Sr. and Blanche (Folan) Duffin. Raised and educated in Dorchester, Jack attended Roxbury Memorial High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps prior to graduation. Jack would leave the Marines in 1956 as a decorated First Corporal. Jack was known as “The Legend” by many in the bakery trade and serviced almost every bakery in New England as a sales representative for such companies as, the Middlebee Red Pail Filling Company in South Boston and the Pillsbury Rothstein Flour and Sugar Division in Framingham, MA. He went on to take a five-year hiatus from sales and operated Duffin’s Muffins in Clinton, Worcester, and Marlborough, Massachusetts. He would later retire from the baking industry after 25 years with Henry and Henry Corporation, manufacturer of fruit fillings and bakery ingredients out of Buffalo, NY. Whenever Jack did anything, he did it with passion and love beyond words. Throughout his life, Jack was an active volunteer in numerous roles at several churches. He was a long-time member of the Marlborough Knights of Columbus, served as President of the Massachusetts Retail Bakers Association and later, he served as President of the Portsmouth Country Club in Portsmouth, NH Jack and his wife of 66 years were avid dancers, and in earlier days, won many dance awards and contests. He had an energy you could not ignore. He had a very contagious laugh and anyone who knew Jack would tell you what a great friend and sport he was. Jack has volumes of music. He was a great lover of music, especially Jazz. His best story was a night in Boston with Ella Fitzgerald. He and his wife sat in front and Ella sat with them at their table. Jack was in his glory. Above all, Jack's greatest joy in life was his family. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and Jack will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by his children; John E. Duffin III and his wife Jane of Brewster, MA, David Michael Duffin of Billerica, MA, Rosemary Duffin of Marlborough, MA, Harry R. Duffin and his wife Marybeth of Hampstead, Jennifer Marie Duffin and her husband Edwin Wyllie of Marlborough, MA, Kristen Harris and her husband Jack of Marlborough, Kathleen Hallock and her husband Paul of Tuscon, AZ. Jack is also survived by his 19 grandchildren as well as 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Jack is predeceased by his daughter, Deborah Ann Kirker. Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Jack for a period of visitation on Monday, August 7, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Remick and Gendron Funeral Home, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Jack’s Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, 289 Lafayette Road, Hampton.
