Larry Kenneth Asbury

Stratham- Larry Kenneth Asbury, 89, of Stratham, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born in 1936 in Detroit, Michigan, to Thomas and Wilhelmine Asbury, Larry grew up with a strong work ethic and love of sports. He attended Cranbrook Schools and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1958, where he played right wing and center on the hockey team. He earned the rank of Captain in the United States Air Force, serving from 1958 to 1969. Larry was an Electronic Warfare Officer and flew in B-52s. After his military career, Larry worked mostly as a human resources director and he also worked in construction and building inspection. He coached a local youth hockey team, where his kids liked to tag along and cheer. In addition to his love of hockey, which he played into his adult years, he enjoyed golfing, playing softball and volleyball, and while living on Pawtuckaway Lake in NH, boating and fishing. He liked camping too, once spending several weeks of family camping while in between moves. He especially treasured time spent with his kids and grandchildren, taking them on the alpine slide despite crashing himself during one of many condo weeks in North Conway, NH. He traveled to their sporting events and loved watching sports of all kinds with family. He would drive a million miles, for family and other commitments. He never gave in to life challenges that came his way. He hitchhiked to work in a suit when his car broke down. He was fiercely independent and resilient. He loved to sit and talk over a drink, share his creative ideas, tell stories, and joke around. He had a certain wit about him. He had a serious side too and had a special way of making profound statements. He coached and provided guidance to his cherished kids and grandchildren throughout their lives. He was dependable, generous, kind and thoughtful. Larry (“Dad”, “Grandpa”, and “Papa”) is survived by his children and their spouses Veronica (Bill) McNicholas, Laurie (Mark) Clark, Stuart (Diane) Asbury, Karen Asbury, and Laura (Eric) Lambrou; his grandchildren Hannah McNicholas, Danyel McNicholas, Eric (Julie) Clark, Susan Clark, Ryan (Melissa) Clark, Brentton Asbury, Jackson Lambrou, Brady Lambrou, and Alex Lambrou; his great grandchildren Kinsley Clark and Kingston Clark, and nephew Thomas Asbury. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Wilhelmine, and his brother Lloyd Asbury. A private family gathering will be held at a later date in his honor.
