Mary Elizabeth Knight

North Hampton- Mary Elizabeth “Marybeth” Knight, 63, passed away during the night in her home in North Hampton, New Hampshire on Sunday, June 29th. She was born to Ruth Hyacinth (Yusaitis) Rumley and John Rumley on November 22, 1961 in Wethersfield, Connecticut. She was raised both by her parents and her grandmother, Mary Yusaitis. She had fond memories of her grandmother buying her her first car, a VW bug, and of being snowed in together during the Blizzard of ’78. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in nursing from The College of New Rochelle in New York. She worked as a nurse at the Institute of Living in Hartford, Connecticut, where she met her husband, Dr. Michael Knight. They had a whirlwind romance and were engaged within months of meeting. They married on April 11th 1987. They were married for 38 years before Marybeth’s passing. Mary Elizabeth was incredibly active in her children’s lives, often volunteering at their schools while they were growing up. She cared very much about maintaining close connections between her family members. She called her mother every day up until her mother’s passing, and always stayed in close contact with her children, her brother and her nieces and nephews. She was a voracious reader. She loved to sit and read wherever she could, whether it be in her usual spot on the family room couch, or on a float in the pool during the summer. She was, like her mother, a devout Catholic and was very generous with others. She had a love for travel and spent the last years of her life exploring many different parts of the world with her husband, including Morrocco, Germany, Lithuania, and Quebec. Nicknamed “The Queen of Holidays,” she was known to decorate her house bountifully for every holiday. She was particularly famous for dressing up in full make-up and costume as a witch for Halloween to entertain the trick-or-treaters that came to her door. She loved holiday traditions and always made sure her family partook in making fudge at Christmas, dyeing Easter eggs during Easter, and watching their feet closely on St. Patrick’s Day to avoid stepping on leprechauns. She is survived by her husband, Michael Joseph Knight; their four children, Rachel Knight, Emily Beauchesne (wife, Samantha), Adam Knight, and Hannah Graham (husband, Colin); her three grandchildren, Leila and Rowan Beauchesne and Lucas Graham; her brother, Mark Rumley (wife, Jodi); her sister-in-law, Candice Eubanks; her nieces and nephews, Ashley Buskirk, and Rebecca, Hannah, Luke, Sarah and Matiwos Rumley; and her dog, Scout. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at St. Theresa Church, 280 Central Road, Rye Beach, NH 03871.
