Mary Oliver White

North Hampton - Mary Oliver White, of North Hampton, passed away peacefully at home with family on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. She was 87 years old. Born in North Adams, Massachusetts on July 23, 1937, Mary was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Ruth (Grundy) Oliver of Williamstown and Andover, Mass. Mary moved with her family from Andover to North Hampton and graduated from Hampton Academy with the Class of 1955 as President of her class. She was the loving wife of the late Charles G. White, teacher and coach at WHS. Known to all as Mom White, Queen Mary, Nano and Auntie Mouse, Mary grew up as a baseball fan, following the Boston Braves on the radio. She lived her dream of marrying a young baseball player from Hampton, running off to Florida at age 19 to join him at spring training for the Milwaukee Braves farm team. An avid sports fan, she was seen regularly at her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. Mary’s favorite job was working with the North Hampton School Food Service, and valued her friendships with teachers and co-workers. She was a wonderful cook, and never hesitated to take in and feed anyone, but mostly her children’s friends and grandchildren. An avid reader, there was always a book in her hand or the latest mystery novel to unravel. She looked forward to her coffee group meetings, and enjoyed their visits. Mary is survived by her children, Lori (Ron) Cotter of North Hampton, Terry (Alicia) White of Hampton, Chuck (Laurie) White of North Hampton. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Christopher (Jordan) Cotter of Stratham, Casey Cotter of Portsmouth, Grafton (Greta) White of North Hampton, Halie (Cole) Flickinger of Hampton, Abigail (Chris) Chase of North Hampton, as well as 6 great grandchildren: Tuck, Eamon, Georgiana, Adeline, Eoghan, and Theodore. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was predeceased by her brother, Bill Oliver of Beverly, Mass. She also leaves behind many nieces, cousins, and sister in laws who have been a part of her life. She will be remembered most for her wit, her charm, her smile and sense of humor. A visit always involved many jokes, stories, and shenanigans that made one laugh out loud. We love you , Nano, for the laughter and the joy of having you in our lives and forever in our hearts. Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Mary for a period of visitation on Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH 03842. A Celebration of Life will take place in the funeral home immediately following the visitation at 12:00 p.m. Mary will be laid to rest beside her husband following the service at High Street Cemetery, 140 High Street, Hampton, NH 03842.
