Maura J. Dumont Fleming

Hampton- On Friday, May 31, 2024, Maura J. Dumont Fleming peacefully entered Heaven after a short illness. She was surrounded by love, her family, and all our collective hearts. Maura was born with her twin brother, Tom, on October 5, 1965, and is the daughter of the late Maureen M. and Emile T Dumont. For all of her days, she brought nothing but joy, happiness, and sunshine into the lives of all who knew her. Maura was a gift. Maura was raised in Chelmsford, MA and Hampton Falls, NH. She graduated with the Class of 1983 from Winnacunnet High School in Hampton, NH. Maura was raised in a big family with her parents, Emile and Maureen along with her four siblings: the late E. Thomas, Daniel, Christine, and Mary. The seven Dumonts lived a happy and wonderful life full of love and laughter. It was in her parent's hotel in Chelmsford, MA that Maura first embarked in hospitality and where she began to perfect her undeniable skill of making everyone feel welcome, seen, and loved. Maura went on to travel extensively for work being whisked away for her expertise to run operations for various hotel groups along the eastern seaboard. She eventually took over ownership of her family’s restaurant, The Purple Urchin in Hampton Beach, NH. No one was a stranger at the Purple Urchin. That was because Maura had the ability to deeply connect with everyone she met. She shared her joy freely with everyone and made them feel loved, supported, and special. Whether you were a guest or an employee, Maura made you feel like you were family because to her you were family. After many years of friendship, Maura married Jake Fleming on October 3rd, 1997. Maura along with Jake ran the Purple Urchin for the next 25 years. The two of them were a duo that everyone flocked to for their care, guidance, senses of humor, and fun. They were the best friends anyone could have. Jake and Maura would go on to offer hospitality to countless tourists, friends, family and employ numerous wonderful employees. In the off season, Jake and Maura made Naples, Florida their second home creating memories revolving around golf, friends, and enjoying life to its fullest. Everyone loved Maura and Jake. Maura was predeceased by her parents, her beloved twin brother E. Thomas Dumont Jr. in 2021, her brother-in-law, M. Stephen Fleming of Halifax, N.S. and her dear husband Jake Fleming who also passed away only a short time ago in April of 2024. Maura is survived by her siblings: Daniel Dumont of Hampton Falls, NH, Christine Dumont and her partner David Ott of Hampton Falls, NH, Mary Dumont and her wife, Emily French-Dumont of Groton, MA, her sister-in-law Lynne Dumont of Hampton, NH, her sister-in-law Darlene Fleming (M. Stephen Fleming) of Halifax, NS, brother-in-law Kevin Fleming and wife Susan Scannell of Exeter. She’s also survived by many nieces and nephews including Cameron and Jacob Dumont of Hampton, NH, Benjamin, Nathan, and Harrison Nigrin of Hampton Falls, NH, and Emma and Daniel Dumont of Hampton Falls, NH, Hannah and Claire French of Boston, MA, Abigail French of Burlington, VT, Ella French of Groton, MA, Sean Fleming of Halifax, N.S., Katherine Fleming of Calgary, B.C., Mary Ann Doherty and husband Bill of Scottsdale, AZ, Ellen Scannell Fleming of Salem, MA, Patrick Fleming and wife Heather of Santa Barbara, CA, Michael Fleming of Newbury, MA, and Stephen, Anna, and Mary Doherty of Scottsdale, AZ. If we are lucky in life, we grow more than one heart. The heart we share with the world and the hearts we grow for special people. Maura grew more hearts for the people she loved than anyone we know. She shared her love and joy freely. It has been profound and life changing for all of us to have been loved by Maura. Her siblings, family, friends and the greater community share in a collective grief for the loss of our sweet Maura, and we will eternally love and miss her. Maura’s family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to the medical teams of Beth Israel-Lahey MICU, and other special people, for their care and kindness for Maura. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and remember Maura for a period of visitation on Monday, June 10, 2024 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Remick and Gendron Funeral Home- Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Mission Church at 1 Lowell, Street, Seabrook Beach, NH 03874. Burial will follow at High Street Cemetery, Hampton. The family requests those who wish to otherwise express sympathy to consider a donation to Victoria's Victory Foundation (Project Walk) whose mission is to change the lives of people with mobility challenges in memory of Maura J.
