Hampton - Maureen Joyce Emery, 89, of Hampton, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness, resilience, and unwavering devotion to those she loved most. Maureen was predeceased by her husband, John C. Emery; her sister, Mary Margaret “Peggy” Ingraham; and her son-in-law, David Follansbee. She is survived by her children: Cheryle Merrill of Seabrook, New Hampshire; Donald Merrill of Exeter, New Hampshire; Cathy Follansbee of Epping, New Hampshire; Thomas Merrill of Ossipee, New Hampshire; Cynthia Merrill and her husband, Matt Van Ledtje, of Durham, New Hampshire; and Jonathan Merrill of Hampton, New Hampshire. Maureen’s greatest pride and joy were her family, including her 13 beloved grandchildren and 14 cherished great-grandchildren. Her family extended far beyond those related by blood. Over the years, she lovingly cared for countless children as a nanny, embracing them as her own and remaining a treasured part of their lives long after her caregiving days had ended. To many, she was not only a nanny but a trusted confidante, a source of comfort, and a cherished member of their families. She was also blessed with countless lifelong friendships that enriched both her life and the lives of those around her. Born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, on December 17, 1936, Maureen was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (MacDonald) Thomson. Raised and educated in Portsmouth, she attended Portsmouth High School, graduating with the Class of 1956. She later made her home in Hampton, where she devoted herself to raising her family and building a life centered on love, hard work, and service to others. After raising her family, Maureen continued to embrace life with her characteristic energy and dedication. In recent years, she worked at Lamie’s Inn–Old Salt Restaurant, where she remained a familiar and beloved presence until the age of 89. She genuinely loved her work and the people she worked alongside, forming friendships that brought her great joy. Her commitment, warmth, and strong work ethic were evident to all who knew her, and she took great pride in being part of the Lamie’s Inn family for so many years. Maureen was a woman of remarkable courage and determination. Throughout her life, she faced challenges with grace, always placing the needs of her family before her own. Her warmth, generosity, and sense of humor touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. Whether through a comforting conversation, a thoughtful gesture, or simply her steadfast presence, Maureen had a gift for making people feel seen, valued, and loved. Above all, Maureen cherished her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, nanny, and friend whose love knew no bounds. Her greatest joy came from watching her family grow and thrive, celebrating their accomplishments, supporting them through difficult times, and creating memories that will be treasured for generations. Those who knew Maureen will remember her strength in adversity, her compassionate heart, and her ability to comfort others even while facing her own challenges. She taught those around her the enduring values of perseverance, kindness, and unconditional love. Maureen’s life was a testament to the power of family, faith, resilience, and hard work. While her absence leaves an immeasurable void, her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched and in the love she leaves behind. Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Maureen’s life during visiting hours on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, New Hampshire.
