Peter A. Mikkonen

Greenland — It is with heavy heart that the family of Peter Allen Mikkonen announces his passing on Monday, June 5, 2023. Peter died suddenly while on business travel overseas. He was the husband of Margaret “Peggy” (Cronin) Mikkonen. Born at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis, MA, he was the son of Allen and Salme (Kallio) Mikkonen. Peter graduated from Barnstable High School in 1984. He continued his education at UMass Amherst, graduating with a BS degree in Biochemistry in 1988 and earned an MBA in Management from Bentley University, McCallum Graduate School of Business in 2001. Peter spent his 35-year working career in the pharmaceutical business, including the last decade with Lonza Biologics, in Portsmouth, NH. He attained Director-level responsibilities, developing new international business. Peter’s business travels included Singapore, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Spain. He played football, basketball and baseball at Barnstable High and was also a member of the band. An avid and natural golfer, Peter played many courses in New England and the United States with a particular fondness for The Ledges in York, ME. Peter loved music, including rock, jazz, country and especially the Blues. Above all Peter cherished the time spent with Peggy and Molly and their vacations on Cape Cod/New England beaches, lakes, and ski trips. Pete was an easy-going, friendly, and mild-mannered person who made friends wherever he went or where job opportunities placed him and family. Besides his wife he is survived and missed by their daughter Molly of Greenland, NH and beloved golden retriever “Susie”; sister, Maria (Mikkonen) Rocha and her husband, Jim, of Centerville, MA; David Mikkonen and his wife, Liz, of Nashua, N.H.; Johanna (Mikkonen) Maguire and her husband, Rich, of Jacksonville, FL; and Kristina (Mikkonen) Hazard and her husband Seth of Centerville, MA. He was the uncle of Quinton and Claire Hazard, Jack and Nina Maguire. He is also survived by many other loving relatives and friends. Visitation at 12pm, directly followed by a funeral service at 1pm, will be celebrated at Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH 03042, in the Main Chapel on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.
