Richard Barrett Duddy Jr.

Richard Barrett Duddy Jr. passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Maine Medical Center in Portland surrounded by his loving family. Richie was born in Waltham Ma. On July 6, 1972 to Richard Barrett Duddy Sr and Sue Ellen (Malloy ) Duddy. Richie moved to Portsmouth NH in 1973 and was a member of the first PEEP program in Portsmouth. Richie went to Portsmouth public schools and graduated with the PHS class of 1993. He spend the next few years as a volunteer at St. James Church, Rice Library and other places. Richie’s job in life was a teacher. He taught love and compassion and joy to anyone that had the pleasure to meet him. He was not perfect in body but he was perfect in soul. He had a special love about him that radiated from him. He was kind and gentile, He possessed a special gift of happiness when you met him. He never asked for much but gave so much in return. He loved being around people, whether it was the mall, grocery stores or Lowes. His smile told you all you needed to know. Richie was a huge sports fan. He loved all sports but especially college football. Richie’s room was his sports sanctuary, adorned with posters, books and pennants. He always left the house wearing his Celtics black baseball cap and Boston sports jacket to "go to work ". His daily ride with Dad in his black truck to the dump was his life. Along with sports was Richie’s love for show’s from the 60’s and 70’s . the Cunninghams and Fonzie on Happy Days, Spongebob and Patrick and Price is Right. A book of Curious George and the Smurf’s were always on his table for all to read that entered his room. Richie, his Mom and Dad were one. His love for family, his brother Mike and sister Sarah was beautiful, powerful and uncomplicated. As his family grew and stayed close, he was surrounded by all. Uncle Richie had Jake and Carter, Amiah and Vaughan, and Alyza to just stop in to say hi for a moment. Birthdays and holidays brought him and his family together. Richie leaves family and friends behind, Mike and Karen Duddy, Jake, Carter and Amiah Duddy, Sarah and Greg Vaillancourt, Vaughan and Alyza Vaillancourt, Mike and Jan Carroll, Ron and Susan Duddy, Jody Jackson and many other relatives. He was predeceased by sister Mary Elizabeth. We ask in lieu of flowers that you take that special moment to hug your loved ones and cherish what you have..
