Robert B. Benson

Hampton – Robert “Bob” Bruce Benson, 87 passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Hartford, Bob raised his family of 6 children in Enfield, CT before moving to Hampton, NH in the summer and Zephyrhills, FL in the winter. A graduate of Buckeley High School class of 1955, Bob enlisted in the Army National Guard. He attended meteorological school and worked on the NikeSites as a platoon sergeant of the launching platoon. He was Honorably Discharged with the rank of Master Sergeant in 1964. Bob owned and operated an A1 station in Enfield and taught auto mechanics for Pierce Buick of Hartford, while putting himself through college. He obtained his Associates degree from Asnuntuck Community College, and finished his career working for the State of Connecticut’s Department of Labor as a supervisor of field auditors. During his retirement, he drove a limousine in New Hampshire; worked for H&R Block; and volunteered at the senior center in Florida assisting his community in completing their tax returns. Family was Bob’s number 1 priority transcending over many generations. Everyone was always welcomed in his heart and his home. Nothing gave him as much pleasure and happiness as traveling and spending time with family and his best friends Eddie and Gail Smith. He also had an endless love for animals, and never met a dog he did not shower with affection. Bob was mild mannered and lived a full life of kindness, love and devotion. He was a true Gentleman. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Einer & Marion Benson, his sister Joan McLain, brother, Edward Benson and great grandson, Randall Layne. He is survived by his wife Rita of 23 years, his children still residing in Connecticut, Deborah Calabrese of Enfield, Robert Benson Jr & Patricia of Willimantic, Cynthia Giuliano of Suffield, Suzanne Angeloni & Daryl of Manchester, Nancy Boudah & Bob Mashiak of Somers and Terry LaVallee & Scott of Somers. His grandchildren: Wendi, Kristie, David and his wife Heidi, Anthony, Robert, Tiffany, Joshua, Lillian, April, Eric, Audra, Christopher and his wife Lauren, Amanda and her husband Craig, Matthew, Michael, Gregory, Kelly, Elizabeth, Victoria and Kathryn and her husband Zach; Great Grandchildren, Nicholas and his wife Alex, Jeremy, Dylan and his wife Kim, Felicia, Jacqueline, Anna, Jayden, Brayden, Payton, Vince, Crew, Lennox, Oliver, Elliott, Amelia and Isla; his Great Great grandson Luka; his sister-in-law Maureen Benson; former wife Jacqueline; as well as many nieces and nephews. Bob also leaves behind Rita’s children, Leon “Bud” Laurion and Anne Blanchette & Alec; and her grandchildren, Alex and Benjamin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you donate to your local humane society or animal rescue center. Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Bob for a period of visitation on Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home – Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH 03842. Burial will take place following the visitation and Bob will be laid to rest at St. Charles Cemetery, Old Rochester Road, Dover, NH 03820.
