Suzanne Sanderson

North Hampton- With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our mom Suzanne (Sue) Sanderson, who left this world, reluctantly, on May 23rd. Born on March 21, 1934, she was the daughter of Edwin A. Wilder. Suzanne lost her mother, Rachel Atwood, at birth. However, she was blessed to be raised, first by her Aunt Jean Atwood and then by her devoted stepmother, Eleanor Blanch Moynihan Wilder, who loved and cared for her as her own. Raised in Sterling, Mass, Sue earned her associates degree in Medical Technology, from Becker Junior College. However, she began her career as a “Stewardess” for Eastern Airlines. It was here that she met her future husband, Jarib (Ted) Sanderson, who was at the time a first officer for the airline. After she and Ted settled in North Hampton, she focused on raising her children Sue was a truly kind, optimistic, creative and joyful soul whose warmth touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. It was this creative spirit that her family most remembers. Sue was a devoted and caring mother and grandmother centering her life around family, friendships and compassion for others. Whether through a thoughtful conversation where her favorite saying was “this too shall pass”, hanging out at the pool while watching her grandkids woof down her endless supply of popsicles and klondike bars, her simple presence always made the world feel softer and brighter. Like a true New Englander, Sue had a passion for a good lobster roll, an unquenchable thirst for Lago’s Kahlua Chip ice-cream and a love hate relationship with her beloved Red Sox or “Red Flops” as she sometimes called them, and of course a true hatred for the Yankees, all traits that she passed onto her kids and grandkids. Besides her family, Sue was an avid gardener, and basked in the true simple things in life, a good book, a good glass of Bourbon and a soft dog head to pat. Above all else, Sue will be remembered for her sense of humor, her sarcasm, the love that she gave so freely and her kindness that she imprinted by all those who crossed her path. Sue was pre-deceased by her husband Ted, son-in-law James, brother Bruce and sister, Elizabeth. Sue leaves behind her sons, Douglas and his wife, MarySue of Hampton, NH; David and his wife, Amy of Kensington, NH; her daughter, Julee of Kensington, NH; 7 grandchildren, Megan Van Roie and her husband, Justin; Adam and his wife, Jen Purks; Skylar Noyd and her husband, Jeremiah, Shane McClure, Lauren, Rachel and Jarib Sanderson; and 4 great grandchildren, William, Charles, Augustine and Philip Van Roie. The family wishes to thank the staff of Langdon Place of Exeter and Beacon Hospice for their dedicated care. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sue’s memory may be made to the Walter Burns Fishing Derby c/o Annie’s Angels PO Box 108, Newfields, NH 03856. The “Walter Burns Memorial Fishing Day for Special Needs Children” , was conceived by Walter Burns a lifetime member of the Piscataqua Fish and Game Club and is held annually in May at Sanderson’s family Pond in Greenland, NH.
