Theresa Mary Rowell

Hampton - Theresa Mary (McLaughlin) Rowell, of North Hampton, NH passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover, NH surrounded by her loving family. She was 91 years old. Born on March 12, 1932, in Newburyport, Massachusetts, Theresa was the daughter of the late Hugh and Jessie (McCarthy) McLaughlin. Raised and educated in Newburyport, Theresa attended Immaculate Conception High School and graduated in 1950. Theresa was always ambitious and as a young woman was employed as a clerk at Lincoln’s Department Store and Rexall Drug in Newburyport. She also worked at Newburyport News in the classified advertising department for several years. Theresa met her husband Charles at Diamond Match building supply in Newburyport where she worked as a bookkeeper. Over the years, she continued working as a bookkeeper throughout the Seacoast area, including the family business Rowell Building Supply which operated in North Hampton for many years. Theresa was a longtime resident of North Hampton, where she and her husband raised their four children in the home they built together on Post Road. Following the passing of her husband in 2002, she moved to Fremont where she resided for several years and was an active volunteer at the Town Library. Theresa enjoyed returning to the Seacoast area when she moved to Cornerstone in Hampton in 2019. Throughout her life, Theresa had many interests including gardening, music, art, caring for her pets, attending church, traveling, knitting, and solving word puzzles. Theresa was a longtime volunteer at Operation Blessing in Portsmouth. Theresa always said that the most important thing in her life was her family. She cherished family holiday gatherings and social events with friends and family. Theresa is survived by her children; Victoria Haley and her husband William of Exeter, Jeffrey Rowell and his wife Cheryl of Fremont, David Rowell, and his wife Kathy of Eliot, ME, and Diane Warner and her husband Mark of Palm Beach Gardens, FL. She is also survived by her sister, Mona Spalding of Newburyport, MA, sister-in-law Judy McLaughlin of Newton, her grandchildren, Shaun, Kelly, Jackson, Sophie, Olivia, Amelia, as well as her great-grandchildren, Christian and Camilla. In addition to her parents, Theresa is predeceased by her husband, Charles Fremont Rowell, as well as her siblings, Patricia Spalding, Jean Vallette, David McLaughlin, and Agnes Harvey. Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Theresa for a period of visitation on Friday, May 19, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Remick and Gendron Funeral Home, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home the following day on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. A private burial will be held at a later date, when Theresa will be laid to rest beside her husband at North Hampton Center Cemetery.
