William J. Alex

Dover - William J. Alex, 74, of Rochester, NH, passed away peacefully with his wife of 43 years, Sharon by his side at Bellamy Fields Assisted Living Facility in Dover, NH. Born on December 28, 1951 in Portsmouth, NH, Bill was the son of the late John W. Alex of Dover, NH and Shirley J. (Crowley) Alex of Portsmouth, NH. He graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1969 and NH Vocational Technical School in 1971 as a draftsman. He loved Portsmouth and enjoyed many long walks with Sharon, sharing stories of his adventures growing up there. Those walks often ended with a cheeseburger at Gilley's Diner. Bill was extremely proud of all of his children and they brought him much joy. Candyce Milliard and husband David of Berwick, ME, Theron Alex of Dover, NH, Philip and wife Krystal of Berwick, ME, Lauren Gore and husband Drew of Cape Neddick, ME, Anna Olson and husband Aaron of St. Martin, Manitoba. Bill was predeceased by his parents, his son William J. Alex Jr., brother Chris G. Alexandropoulos of Epping, NH, nephew Joshua Alex and mother-in-law Virginia Scarponi. He is survived by siblings Anthony Alex and wife Leslie of Dover, NH, Jeffrey Rudinsky and wife Susan of Mont Vernon, NH, Tammy Rafferty and husband Scott of Amherst, NH, Michelle Wood and husband Jim of Dover, NH, and Lisa Alexandropoulos of Epping, NH; his grandchildren Meaghan, Allison, Norah, Lilia, Henry, Sawyer, Madison, Eli, Connor, and Theodore; father-in-law Richard Scarponi of Barrington, NH; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Bill shared a wonderful life with Sharon watching their children grow and have families of their own. He was Papou to his grandchildren and loved to make them laugh. Traveling with his wife was something he always loved to do and was lucky enough to go to Greece to visit the birthplace of his beloved Papou in Afara, Greece. He also loved to golf and especially enjoyed playing rounds with his son, Phil, and his father-in-law, Dick. He spent most of his career working in the building industry, including work in the glass business, designing clean rooms for Kidde Industries, as a general contractor, then working for KBS and Keiser Homes where he helped many people build their dreams. He made many friends along the way. Burial will be at Exeter Cemetery in Exeter, NH with a service to be announced at a later date.
