Hampton – Anthony S. “Tony” Basile, 89, a resident of Hampton since 2001, formerly of Wellesley, MA, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 2, 2020. He was born in Boston, MA on December 31, 1930, the eldest son of the late Biagio and Maria (Freni) Basile. Raised in Concord, MA he graduated from Concord High School and went on to attend Brown University and Notre Dame before graduating from Brandeis University and later attending MIT for graduate school. He proudly served 3 years in the United States Army in Orleans, France. Mr. Basile was an IT Manger for much of his career, working for Polaroid Corporation part of which included building an international data processing center in Milngavie, Scotland. In the early days of automation, Tony became an independent consultant installing point-of-sale and accounting systems in Steamboat Springs, CO. He was revered as a manager and leader for his ability to mentor his employees and colleagues to help them realize their potential. Tony loved traveling, skiing, photography, and summering at Lake Ontario where he entertained his family and friends with tales of his interesting and wide-ranging life. All generations in his family relied on him for his steady hand and solid advice. He was treasured for his enthusiasm and exuberant enjoyment of life. He shared 31 years with his wife Hildy Stover of Hampton. Theirs was a deep and abiding love that was obvious to all who knew them. In addition to his wife, surviving family members include his children, Zava Basile and husband Jon Levine of Massachusetts, Paula Basile of Colorado, Priscilla Basile of Kansas, Stephanie Gillis and husband Stephen of New Hampshire and their mother, Judy Basile of Colorado; siblings, John Basile, Martha Basile and Cathy Callahan; grandchildren, Lianna, Benjamin, Caterina, Jessica, Maria, Analeise, Bonnie and James; 2 great grandchildren, Parker and Milo, 2 nephews Ross and Craig and a number of relatives in his extended family near Syracuse, NY. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, John Basile. A visiting hour will be held from 11 AM - 12 PM on Saturday, August 8, 2020 in the Remick-Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Services will immediately follow in the funeral home at 12 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Masks and social distancing are required.
