"Late Fragment" And did you get what you wanted from this life, even so? I did. And what did you want? To call myself beloved, to feel myself beloved on the earth. -by Raymond Carver Exeter - Barbara Swenson, indeed was beloved by family and friends. In her quiet way she moved through life being kind to others and taking an interest in all that was presented to her. She was a progressive 91 year old who believed in the goodness of others and she treated others with equanimity and she followed the Golden Rule. Barbara had many talents. She showed great creativity throughout her life. She was an excellent seamstress, quilter, and embroiderer. Textiles and craft activities were always a part of her life. She was also a fantastic baker who could often be found in the kitchen whipping up treats. Barbara was quiet and primarily an introvert, so she did not join many organizations, but she did enjoy being a member of the Hampton Walkers, the Seacoast Chorale and she enjoyed singing in the First Congregational Church of Hampton choir. She was a woman who took pride in her home and did not pine for travel. After moving to Hampton Falls in 1970 she worked to create a home in the newly built house on Sanborn Rd. Later, after the death of her husband, Arthur, she moved to Hampton Meadows in Hampton and began the process of creating a home for herself there. Finally, health issues brought her to Cornerstone Assisted Living in Hampton where she once again transformed an apartment into a home. Her children Sandra A. O’Neill, Karl Swenson, and Lynn Newman will miss her dearly as well as daughter-in-law Linda Swenson and son-in-law Matt Newman. Barbara leaves seven grandchildren: Sean O’Neill, Kerry O’Neill, Rob O’Neill, Kristin Pillay, Katie Swenson, Molly Feltner, and Lucy Newman. She also leaves three adorable great-grandchildren Saundy Pillay, Lily Pillay, and Addy Pillay. Family was the center of Barbara’s life and that family is grateful that we were lucky enough to have her in our lives for so long.
