Charles E. Ireland, Jr.

August 31, 1942 - November 27, 2021

Greenland – Charles E. Ireland, Jr., 79, of Greenland, died unexpectedly Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. He was born in Portsmouth August 31, 1942 a son of the late Charles E. and Dorothy (Brown) Ireland. Charles attended Winnacunnet High School and served as a Seabee in the US Navy. He retired from Shop 07 at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a carpenter for over 25 years. Prior to this he worked in construction, was dispatcher for National Wrecker and for home oil and propane delivery. He was a fixture at the Greenland Recycling Center since the early 1970’s and was a longtime member of the Greenland Volunteer Fire Department making Captain in 1986. He also served the department as arson investigator, EMT as well as being on the Board of Directors for over 13 years. Charles was a Christian man, attended American Legion Post 35, Hampton and enjoyed hunting, gardening, fishing, training hunting dogs and always had a book to read. He shared 53 years of marriage with his wife Joyce (Mason) Ireland who predeceased him on September 4, 2021. Family members include four children, Tammy Frazer and husband Shawn of Jefferson, NY, Tina Miles and husband Philip of Greenland, Edward Benson of Greenland, Charles E. Ireland, III of Somersworth, brother Lawrence Ireland of York, Maine, six grandchildren, Randy, Abigail, Christopher, Nicholas, Marcy and Philip, eight great grandchildren, Shawn, Casey, Rowan, Brogan, Waylon, Isabella, Finneghan and Sailer, one great great grandson Cameron, nieces, nephews, cousins and Shotgun Willie. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Douglas and George Ireland. A graveside service will be held at 1 P.M. Friday, December 3, 2021 in the Central Cemetery, Rye. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Memorial donations may be made to the Greenland Fire Department, PO Box 100, Greenland, NH 03840. Arrangements are by the Remick & Gendron Funeral home-Crematory, Hampton.
