Hampton – David L. Hopkins, Sr., 84, of Hampton, died Sunday, December 31, 2017 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born in Waban, MA, March 7, 1933, a son of the late Dr. John E. and Genevieve R. (Hickey) Hopkins. Mr. Hopkins graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Newton Centre, MA in 1951, and he earned his bachelor’s degree from Boston College School of Marketing in 1955. He worked as a sales representative for General Tire and Continental Tire for 39 years, retiring in 1994. He moved to Hampton in 1991 after living in Parsippany, NJ for 22 years. While in NJ, he was very involved in the Little League Program and was a past president. Additionally, he served as a weekly usher at St. Peter's Parish in Parsippany. In Hampton, he was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, and was a member and past president of the Holy Name Society. Always ready with a witty remark, he enjoyed traveling, music, and was an ardent fan of BC sports, the Patriots, and the Red Sox. Throughout his life he happily spent summers at Hampton Beach, which is where he met his wife M. Esther (Connor) Hopkins, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage and many happy memories. In addition to his wife, family members include four sons, David L. Jr., and his late wife Debby of Denville, NJ, William J. and his wife Sharon of Budd Lake, NJ, Michael G., DMD. and his wife Heather of Branchville, NJ, Thomas E. of Rockaway, NJ, three daughters, Patricia A. Montana and her husband Robert of Hampton, Dr. Anne Hopkins Gross and her husband Glen of Niskayuna, NY, Kimberly R. Hopkins and her husband Brian Betts of Hampton, his sister, Jane Hopkins of San Francisco, CA, many nieces and nephews, 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, all of whom he dearly loved. Mr. Hopkins was predeceased by his brothers Paul, John, William, and Richard, and his sister, Ann Falvey. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation for the wonderful caregivers who made Mr. Hopkins comfortable in his remaining days: Janelle, Carol, and the nurses and aids from Brookhaven Hospice. Also, the family is so grateful for Sister Doris Ouellette and Sister Theresa Malouin – their weekly visits brought so much joy to Mr. Hopkins. Visiting hours will be from 9:30 AM -11:30 AM Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. A mass of Christian burial will follow at 12 noon in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton.
