Dorothy M. Staples

June 8, 1922 - September 6, 2021

Danbury, CT – Dorothy M. Staples, 99, of Danbury, CT and formerly of North Hampton and East Kingston, NH, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 6, 2021 at her home in Danbury surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born on June 8, 1922 in Portsmouth, NH, the daughter of the late Chauncey M. and Marguerite (Beevers) Smith. Raised in Portsmouth, NH, Dorothy graduated from Portsmouth High School with the Class of 1940. She went on to earn her Nursing Certificate from Deaconess Hospital Nursing School. She started her nursing career at Portsmouth Hospital, later worked for Dr. Charles Bailey and spent time as a school nurse for the town of South Hampton and North Hampton, NH. She and her late husband, Frank E. Staples, Sr., were married in 1945 and settled in Portsmouth at the Wentworth Acres before moving to North Hampton in 1949. They then resided in East Kingston for 30 years before relocating to Danbury in 2009 to be near family. Family was the most important part of Dorothy’s life. She cherished the time she spent with her family, whether camping, playing Uno or Racko with the grandchildren or together with family at the cottage on North River Lake, Nottingham, NH. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Gail Stellmach and her husband John of Waterbury, CT, son Frank Staples, Jr. and his wife Jan of New Palestine, IN, her grandchildren Matthew Stellmach and his wife Caryn, Tim Stellmach and his fiancée Blaklee, Kelly Leonard and her husband Charles and Brian Staples and his wife Katie; and 9 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. The family would like to give special thanks to her caregiver Dedee and the Hospice team at Ridgefield VNA. Visitation will be from 11am to 12 pm on Saturday, April 30, 2022 in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home - Crematory, 811 Lafayette Rd., Hampton. Services will follow at 12 pm in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Hillside Cemetery, North Berwick, ME beside her beloved husband. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ladies Union, United Church of Christ, 295 Atlantic Ave., North Hampton, NH 03862.
