Florence R. Perkins

June 12, 1928 - November 8, 2017

Journey thru the life of Florence R. Perkins Seabrook, NH - Florence R. Perkins, 89, of Seabrook, died at Portsmouth Hospital on Wednesday, November 8, 2017. She was born in Newmarket on June 12, 1928 a daughter of the late Anthony and Victoria (Pusz) Zych. She attended schools in Durham, first at a one room schoolhouse with one teacher who taught 6 grades and later Durham Elementary School and Newmarket High. Florence worked at UNH at Nesmith Hall Entomology, then Sam Smith’s Shoe Company in Newmarket where she met her future husband, the late Harry D. Perkins. They married April 10, 1948 and lived in Newmarket for 6 years, before moving to Smithtown. We Remember In 1959 Harry was appointed Postmaster of the Smithtown Post Office and Florence was Substitute Clerk. Together they operated Ma Perkins Country Store at the same location. In January 1970, Harry left for employment at the Seabrook Post Office. Florence was appointed Officer In Charge until it closed October 10, 1970. After retirement, she enjoyed working in her home and caring for her children. Her leisure time was spent playing cards, the organ, accordion, going to movie theaters and Seabrook Beach. She loved nature and all its beauty and wonders. Florence loved this quote by Ella Wheeler Wilcox, “I think of death as some delightful journey that I shall take when all my tasks are done.” Survivors include her two sons, Ronald Perkins and his wife Marcia of Plum Island, MA and Harry “Doug” Perkins of Seabrook; two grandsons, Nicholas and Max; sister Jean Provost of Dover and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband Harry who died on April 26, 2010, she was predeceased by her daughter, Bonnie in1979; two brothers, Chester and Alfred and sisters, Isabella LaRose and Helen Loranger, Florence’s twin. A celebration of Florence’s life will be held at the Trinity United Church Parish House, 29 Main Street in Seabrook on Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 1-3 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Easter Seals NH, 555 Auburn Street, Manchester, NH 03103.
