Fred C. Tobey III

July 22, 1935 - May 2, 2022

Hampton – Fred C. Tobey, III, 86, of Hampton, died Monday, May 2, 2022 at his home with family by his side after a period of failing health. He was born in Lawrence, MA July 22, 1935 a son of the late Fred C. Tobey, Jr. and Grace E. (Powell) Tobey. Fred was raised in Plymouth, NH and graduated from Plymouth High School with the Class of 1954 and from Vermont Academy a college preparatory school in Saxtons River, VT. He then attended and graduated from Nichols College in Dudley, MA. Mr. Tobey had a long career in the newspaper business serving as circulation manager / director for the Lawrence Eagle Tribune for 25 years, for the Merrimac News Company for a period of time and was President of New England Circulation Managers, board of directors of International Circulation Directors, and retired from the Lewiston Sun Journal in Lewiston, ME after 12 years of service. He made his home in Hampton since 1996 coming from Auburn, ME and enjoyed spending his winters in Stewart, FL since 1988 where he played golf at the Martin County Golf Club. He shared 64 wonderful years of marriage with his loving wife Joan C. (Murray) Tobey. In addition to his wife he leaves four children, Fred Charles Tobey IV of Hampton and his wife Jaye, Mark Nelson Tobey and his wife Karen of Auburn, NH, Scott Allen Tobey and his wife Katrina of Hampton, Heather Tobey Edwards and her husband Wayne of Norway, ME, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, two brothers Donald Tobey and his wife Patricia and David Tobey and his wife Jan all of Fort Worth, TX, nieces and nephews. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of traditional remembrances, donations may be made to Pug Rescue of New England
