George F. Chandler Jr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Epping – George F. Chandler, Jr., 84, of Epping, passed away peacefully at the Kirkwood Corners Assisted Living Facility in Lee after an extended illness. He was surrounded by his loving family. George was born on March 19, 1933 in Northampton, MA, a son of the late George F. and Mary M. (Sokolowski) Chandler. He was raised in Northampton and graduated from Northampton High School with the Class of 1951. George then earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He started his career with the former Southern New England Telephone shortly after graduation and spent most of his working life in Connecticut. George retired from the phone company in 1990 after over 39 years of service. He and his wife, Virginia O. Chandler, moved to Swansea, NH in 1990 and enjoyed the first three years of retirement traveling around the country. They moved to Epping in 2007. True snowbirds, they shared their time between Venice Isles, FL and Epping for over 17 years. George was a faithful parishioner of the United Methodist Church in Hampton where he sang with the choir and while living in New Haven, CT he sang with the New Haven Chorale. Singing and dancing, gardening and “puttering” were his favorite activities. In addition to Ginny, with whom he shared over 27 years of marriage, George he is survived by his daughter Julie E. Chandler of Easthampton, MA and her mother, Joyce B. Chandler of Florence, MA; his stepchildren, Jeffrey Ginz and his wife Ruthi Kelman of Wallingford, CT and Betsey Kenyon and her husband David of Rowley, MA; his brothers, Robert Chandler and wife Diane of Ft. Atkinson, WI and Richard Chandler and wife Mary of Waleska, GA and his sisters, Jean Halloran of Andover, MA and his twin, Gladys Powers of Northampton, MA. He also leaves his loving grandchildren, Eric T. Chandler, Conrad Ginz, Matthew Ginz, Jacob Kenyon and William Kenyon as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Stephen Chandler, his stepson John O. Ginz and his sisters, Elizabeth Jezyk and Eleanor Grolimond. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the entire staff of Kirkwood Corners for their kindness and careful attention given to George over the last three years and to the support from Compassus Hospice. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the Hampton United Methodist Church, 525 Lafayette Rd., Hampton, NH. Family and friends are respectfully invited. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the American Red Cross or the Special Olympics.
