George C. Courtovich Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Portsmouth – George C. Courtovich, 83, of Portsmouth, passed peacefully, Sunday, April 3, 2022, at the Edgewood Centre after a brief period of failing health. He was born in Medford, MA on January 17, 1939, the son of the late George (Perakis) and Catherine (Ratti) Courtovich. A majority of Mr. Courtovich’s professional career was as a partner of Kearsarge Metallurgical Corporation of Dover and North Conway, a provider of materials for nuclear reactors and the defense industry. The company was a leader in nuclear technology as well as castings that sold their products around the world. He later worked as a consultant in the defense industry. George was also a veteran, who served in the U.S. Army. He made his home on the seacoast and the north country of New Hampshire for many years and resided in Portsmouth the past 15 years. He was a communicant of St. Theresa Catholic Church, Rye Beach. He was an active member of the boating community in the seacoast and was known as the Captain of the “Second Wind.” While living in the north country he was an active booster of the Mt. Cranmore Ski Team and the annual Volvo International Tennis Tournaments. He leaves his wife, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage, Dorothy (Manning) Courtovich, his son James Courtovich of Washington, DC, his daughter-in-law, Deborah Swennes, and his granddaughter, Colleen Courtovich. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his son George Courtovich and his sister Dr. Claire Van Ummersen. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M. Friday, April 8, 2022, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 825 Central Road, Rye Beach. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Portsmouth. Friends are respectfully invited.
