Geraldine M. "Ger" Clancy

August 2, 1937 - July 13, 2016

Rye - Geraldine M. “Ger” Clancy, 78, of Rye, died of natural causes on Wednesday, July 13 2016 at Durgin Pines in Kittery, ME She was born August 2, 1937 in Manchester the daughter of the late Jeremiah G. and Barbara (Padden) Shea. Ger graduated from Mount Saint Mary College in Hooksett and got her master’s degree in biology from Marquette University. Mrs. Clancy first worked in Boston, MA for several years in immunology, before becoming a special education tutor and working more than 20 years for the Hampton public schools. Post-retirement, Ger was a Eucharistic minister at Portsmouth Hospital and also volunteer at the Seacoast Science Center and Saint Theresa’s Parish both in Rye. She loved to read, watch TV mystery stories and also enjoyed pizza nights every Saturday with her daughter. Ger had a quiet and smart sense of humor, and often wore fleece vests. Though she was a private person, she was kind and gracious and will be missed by all those who had the chance to know her. She shared 42 years of marriage with her beloved late husband James G. “Jim” Clancy. Family members include her daughter Kathleen Clancy and her partner Mark DeCarteret of Stratham; nieces, Donna and Deb Clancy of Marshfield, MA; sister-in-law Diep Shea, niece Moira Shea and nephew Duncan Shea all of Dumfries, VA. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by her only siblings Richard and Michael Shea. The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff at Durgin Pines for going above and beyond with the care they provided Ger in her final months. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Monday, July 18, 2016 in St. Theresa Church, 815 Central Rd. Rye Beach. A luncheon will immediately follow in the parish hall. Interment with committal prayers will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday in the Calvary Cemetery, Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities, P.O. Box 17066, Baltimore, MD 21297-1066.
