James M. Shanahan

February 9, 1951 - June 17, 2022

Newmarket – James M. Shanahan, known to family and friends as Jimmy or Jim, 71, of Newmarket, passed away peacefully after a courageous 4 year battle with cancer on Friday, June 17, 2022, with his loving wife, Anne, by his side. He was born February 9, 1951 the son of Ruth (Small) Shanahan of Salem, MA and the late Paul Shanahan. Jim was raised in Salem, MA and attended St. James Grammar School and graduated from Salem High School with the Class of 1969. He was happily employed as a welder for Munters Corporation in Amesbury, MA for 37 years before retiring in 2017. Friends and family would say that Jimmy could light up a room with his laughter. As a very kind-hearted and loving person, he was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. He will be tremendously missed by all who knew him. Newmarket has been his home for the past 40 years. His Family meant the world to him and was the most important part of his life. He enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, watching wildlife, as well as building and working on projects around the house. He was also an avid fan of the New England Patriots. In addition to his mother he leaves his beloved wife, Anne (Pretanik) Shanahan, the love of his life, with whom he shared 50 wonderful years of marriage, his much-loved son, Michael Shanahan and wife Brittany of Tilton, his sisters, Donna Currier and husband Phillip of Beverly, MA, Kathy Tobey and husband Skip of Salem, NH, Debbie Marshall and husband Jason of Salem, MA, and many other cherished family members. Visiting hours will be held from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM Sunday, July 10, 2022 at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Services will immediately follow at 1:00 PM in the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
