John J. Marchesano

August 27, 1928 - April 4, 2016

Greenland - John James Marchesano, 87, of Greenland and longtime resident of Bronx and Syracuse NY, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2016 at his home. John was born in the Bronx on August 27, 1928, a son of the late Rachel (Atena) Marchesano. He served in the United States Navy and was employed for 20 years with the New York City Port Authority and for another 20 years with New York Telephone. John's greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, woodworking, going to Saratoga Raceway with dear friends, traveling to St Marteen, and rooting for the NY Yankees. He was the original “Fixer Upper” and loved working with his children on their many home projects as well. John leaves his beloved wife of 65 years, Mary (Mocerino) Marchesano of Greenland; his daughters, Rachel Apicelli and her husband Tom of Fayetteville, NY, Lydia LeMay and her husband Serge of Hudson, NY and Mimi Magadia and her husband Nick of Roseville CA; his sons, Al Marchesano and his wife Jean of Walnut Creek, CA and Tony Marchesano and his wife Suzanne of Greenland. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Andrew, Willie, Julian, Kate, Jamie, Nick, Alex, Spencer, Brandon, Santino, Frankie, Marley and Anthony, and great-grandchildren Juliana and Benjamin. Visiting hours will be from 3 to 6 pm on Monday, April 11, 2016 in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 am at the St. Theresa Parish Church, 815 Central Rd., Rye Beach. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Portsmouth. Family and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in John's name may be made to the Rockingham VNA & Hospice at www.rockinghamvna.org or by mail to 137 Epping Road, Exeter NH 03833.
