John T. "Jack" Doheny, Jr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Hampton – John T. “Jack” Doheny, Jr., 83, of Hampton, died Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a period of failing health. He was born in Arlington, MA, September 11, 1938 a son of the late John T. Doheny and Josephine (Leonard) Rappa. Jack was a veteran serving with the United States Marine Corps. Years after his discharge he moved to Brooklyn, NY where he spent years bartending and working on the floor of the NYSE. Jack missed home and moved to Hampton in 1979. He was employed as a Realtor working for several local Real Estate offices for 40 years as well as owning and operating Doheny Realty in the mid 1990s. He retired at the age of 80. Jack was extremely active with AA and helped many people over the years. He was proud of his 52 years of sobriety and up until the end, took each day “One Day at a Time”. Family was most important to Jack. He loved gatherings and cookouts, catching up and sharing laughs. Jack was a real straight shooter and always had time to listen and show his support. He shared 41 years of marriage with his wife Shirley A. (McInnis) Doheny. In addition to his wife he leaves four children, John T. Doheny, III, of Tucson, AZ, Susan Lovett and her husband Juan of Salem, NH, Kathleen Dow of Hampton, and Colleen Malizia and her husband Paul of Hampton, five grandchildren, Nick, Stephanie, Kailey, Maeve and Joey, six siblings, Thomas and Gary Powers, Diane and Thomas Doheny, Doreen Sprague, Kathleen Rappa, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, his stepmother Eileen (April) Doheny, and his brother Leonard Rappa. Visiting hours will be from 4-6 P.M. Saturday, September 25, 2021 at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of traditional remembrances, donations may be made to Lewy Body Dementia Association or to The Wilson House
