Hampton – Marjorie A. Caldwell, 81, of Hampton, died peacefully on Thursday, September 15, 2016 after a brief illness at Oceanside Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation, Hampton. She was born on August 11, 1935 in Portsmouth the daughter of the late Alfred and Blanche (Colbeth) Mannix. Raised in Portsmouth she graduated from Portsmouth High School with the Class of 1953and later attended Plymouth State Teacher's College, majoring in early childhood education. She then went on to marry William Caldwell of Dover. Marjorie was a long-time active member of Middle Street Baptist Church in Portsmouth, who loved being a homemaker and raising her four children. She loved poetry and short stories and wrote many journals about faith, love, and family. She had one of her poems published in a major writer's magazine. She was loved by all that knew her and will be truly missed. In addition to her former husband, family members include her children, Stephanie Chantre and her husband Steve of Rochester, Julie Critchett and her partner Mark Gahan of Newmarket, Dan Caldwell and his wife Laurel of Rochester and 6 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son William Caldwell in 2004. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Harmony Grove Cemetery in Portsmouth. A celebration of life will follow at 12:30 PM at the American Legion Post 67 in Newmarket. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
