Mark M. Oakes

September 27, 1952 - August 16, 2015

Hampton, NH - Mark Marston Oakes, 62, of Hampton died unexpectedly on Sunday, August 16, 2015 after a fall at his home. He was the youngest of three children born September 27, 1952 to the late Everett B. Oakes, Jr. and Mary Evelyn “Monnie” (Sullivan) Oakes. He retired in 2003, after selling his business. He was a longtime member of The Golf Club of New England located in Stratham, where he and his wife hosted a wedding reception for their beloved niece Tara who considered him her “second” father. For years, he generously entertained friends and family on his yacht many times making his way to one of his favorite places to drop anchor off at Crane Beach. He was also passionate about Harley Davidson motorcycles and owned several custom models. He and his wife Heather rode in numerous charity events. Although he had no children of his own, he served as a mentor to his nephew Hans Kurtis “Kurt” Dietterle, who predeceased him in 2000. And, he cared deeply for his two dachshunds Dilly and Dudley who lived a long and pampered life. Mark enjoyed the company of dear friends, many of whom he knew from high school. He leaves behind his wife Heather (MacDonald) Oakes of Hampton; a brother Steve Oakes and his wife Dottie of Manchester; a sister Lynn (Oakes) Robinson and her husband TJ of Auburn, MA; nieces Tara (Oakes) Harrington and her husband Lance and their son Joseph, Andrea (Oakes) Mayhew and her husband Bruce and their children Grace and Lily all of Manchester. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm on Friday, August 21, 2015 in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, 811 Lafayette Rd., Hampton. Family and friends are respectfully invited. Burial will be private.
