Rev. Kenneth D. Atkins

Seabrook, NH – Rev. Kenneth D. Atkins, 88, most recently of Seabrook and longtime resident of Charleston, WV, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2022 at his home in Seabrook. He was born in Gallagher, WV March 27, 1934, a son of the late Thurmond and Alma (Gay) Atkins. Rev Atkins, a retired minister, spent 50 years traveling the country preaching the Gospel in revival meetings, special services, and pastoring in various places, helping them become more stable before moving on to the next need. Rev. Atkins, along with his wife and children would sing together in meetings across the country. He was an accomplished woodworker, making musical instruments that included guitars, banjos, and fiddles that he enjoyed playing. He loved being out in the woods, particularly in the West Virginia mountains. Before answering God’s call to preach the Gospel, he was a Park Ranger for the State of WV. He loved bird watching, identifying plants and flowers in the woods, along with hunting. He shared nearly 70 years of marriage with his wife, Alice L. (Ferris) Atkins, who he married July 4, 1952. She predeceased him on March 19, 2022. He leaves six children: Penny (Jerry) McCallister, Timothy (Susan) Atkins, all of Charleston, WV, Sandra (Warren) Whipple of Bloomingrose, WV, James (Thao) Atkins of Akron, OH, Joseph (Victoria) Atkins of Harrisville, RI and Deborah (Kurt) Groder of Seabrook, NH, with whom he resided. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is survived by a sister-in-law Shirley Atkins, wife of deceased brother, Lyle Atkins. He is preceded in death by a grandchild, two great grandchildren, his sister, Phyllis Atkins and brothers Lyle and Mike Atkins. Services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday, April 14, 2022 at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road Hampton, NH. Viewing is at 10:00 am with a service at 11:00 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. A service will follow at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek, WV with a burial at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston, WV.
