Shirley A. Redmond

December 15, 1945 - November 21, 2019

Seabrook - Shirley Ann (Backer) Redmond, 73, of Seabrook, formally of Sebastian, FL - a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and wife, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 21, 2019, with her loving family by her side, after a brief illness. Born on December 15, 1945, Shirley was the daughter to the late Herbert and Ruth Backer and was raised on her family farm in Benson, Illinois. Shirley was married to the love of her life, the late Daniel B. Redmond, for over forty years, and resided with him and her two children in Topsfield, MA, until they retired and moved to Florida in the early nineties. Together they shared a passion for golf and enjoyed the retired life spoiling their cats and socializing with their many beloved friends. Shirley was very creative and enjoyed hobbies such as scrapbooking and refurbishing antiques, as well as shopping and volunteering at local thrift stores. Shirley leaves behind her children; Georgia L. Martineau and husband Ronald of Ipswich, MA, James P. Soffron and wife Nina of Amesbury, MA, her seven grandchildren; Dakota, Peter, Marisa, Elias, Olivia, Luke and Jesse, along with her brother; Ronald Backer and wife Mary of Roanoke, IL., and their children; Jason and Brooke. Following the passing of her beloved husband in 2017, Shirley moved to New Hampshire to be closer to her family. Since then, she has enjoyed renovating and decorating her new home, hosting and attending family gatherings, dining out, gardening, baking, and priceless quality time with her children and grandchildren. Recently, she was inspired to pick up her clubs again and joined the women’s league at New Meadows Golf Course in Topsfield, MA. Her unwavering love for her family, her joyful energy and courageous spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved her. Shirley will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by many. Donations can be made in Shirley’s memory to the ASPCA at https://secure.aspca.org/donate/ps-memory-sl-p1
