Salisbury, MA – Zelphia A. “Zel” (Eaton) Johnson passed away gracefully after a sudden illness on January 18, 2020 at Anna Jaques Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 4, 1932 in Seabrook, NH the daughter of the late Thomas and Doris Eaton. Zel was a longtime member of the Eastern Star. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. She enjoyed playing golf, bingo, and cards with her family and friends. One of her biggest passions was attending the sporting events of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, where she would make her presence known. In her later years she enjoyed taking trips to the casinos and attending the Fryeburg Fair with the love of her life and husband of 67 years the late Charles J. Johnson, Jr. She will forever be remembered as the strongest woman her family has ever known. She is survived by her brother Peter Eaton and sister Rita Chagnon both of Seabrook, NH; daughter, Trudy Small and her partner George Frost of ME; sons, Charles J. Johnson III and his wife Pamela of Seabrook, NH, Samuel H. Johnson of Salisbury, MA and Timothy O. Johnson and his wife Mona of Salisbury, MA. She was the loving grandmother to 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren with one on the way, and 7 great great grandchildren with one on the way; the loving aunt to many nieces and nephews, and beloved friend to many. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by her daughter, Vera A. Johnson and son, William A. Johnson, along with her brothers, Randolph Boyd, Clement and Thomas Eaton, and sisters, Lois Downs and Minnie Brown. Visiting hours will be held from 3 – 5 PM on Thursday, January 23, 2020 in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH 03842. Services will immediately follow the visitation at 5 PM in the funeral home. Burial will be in the spring.
