Alberta Mae True

Hampton – Alberta Mae True, 78, of Hampton, passed away peacefully with loving family at her side on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at the Rockingham County Nursing Center where she had been living due to failing health. She was born on October 9, 1944, in Peterborough, NH, a daughter of the late A. Lester and Pearl (Young) Stevens. Alberta shared over 43 beautiful years of marriage with her late husband, Richard W. True who died in 2007. Alberta went to nursing school and became an RN at Exeter Hospital before marrying the love of her life, Richard W. True in 1964. Family was always most important to Alberta and in 1966, she left nursing to become a full-time mother, raising Jon and Beth. Alberta loved her family and visiting her relatives and friends. She looked forward to the annual family camping trips and spending time at the summer house in Tuftonboro, NH. She enjoyed camping and traveling in her younger years, including trips to Alaska, the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Grand Canyon. She was a caregiver to all she met and was always available to help her children, family, and friends. Alberta especially loved spending time with her grandkids. She was devoted to Hampton’s Trinity Episcopal Church and wanted it to continue and flourish. The Church Altar Guild was very important to her and she enjoyed working with the members to make sure the altar was always “just right”. Alberta liked to garden and grow plants in her greenhouse, exercise, and walk the beach with her close friends. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Jonathan True of Hampton and her daughter, Beth True-Gibb and her husband, Pete Gibb and her grandchildren, Timothy Gibb and Heather Gibb, all of Fremont. She also leaves her brother, Dennis Stevens and sister-in-law, Donna Peare of Jay, ME, her nieces, Wanda Renner, and her husband, Boyd Renner, of Norfolk, VA, Rebecca Pilch and her husband, Andre Pilch, also of Norfolk, VA, her nephew, Dennis Stevens II of Dover-Foxcroft, ME, great niece, Kaitlyn Stevens of Corinth, ME and great nephew, Ryker Stevens of Milo, ME. In addition to husband and parents, Alberta was predeceased by her sister, Jane E. (Stevens) Huston, her brother, LCDR Wayne Stevens, USN, her sister-in-law, Donna Stevens and her in-laws, Russell and Ruth True. Immediate services will be private. A public celebration of Alberta’s life will be held in the fall, please check back for details.
