Barbara Ann Bednarz

North Hampton – Barbara Ann Bednarz, 78, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 29, 2019, following a period of declining health, while under hospice care at Pruitt Health in Raleigh, NC. She was born in Hadley, Massachusetts to the late Henry and Katherine (Adamski) Fil, the eldest of four children and graduated from Hopkins Academy in 1958. Barbara had a generous heart, was fun-loving and caring. She found the love of her life Stanley, through her love of music and dancing. Their marriage, in June of 1961, was the beginning of a wonderful journey together. She welcomed two children, Jeffrey and John, and was a loving and caring mother to these active boys. In addition to time relaxing at the beach or backyard pool, Barbara liked to travel. Frequent trips back to Hadley were made to visit family, friends, and her favorite hair salon. She and Stan spent time travelling in the US and to many beautiful Caribbean Islands. Following retirement, they spent winters at their home in Nokomis, FL where they made many new close friends. Barbara loved sending cards and was known as the “Sunshine Lady” in their Florida community, sending many cards and well wishes to their friends and neighbors. Barbara enjoyed cooking. She was jokingly known as the “freezer queen” because she could always head down to the freezer and pull out a meal and dessert. As the Christmas holidays got close, she would delight in baking dozens and dozens of Christmas cookies. These were shared with friends and family and became one of the highlights of the holiday season. Most of all, Barbara loved ending each day with a big bowl of ice cream and a book. An avid reader, she was well known at her hometown library. When a new mystery or book by a local author came out, she was near the top of the request list and relished reading the new release. In addition to Stan, her husband of nearly 58 years, she is survived by her son John Bednarz, his wife Terri and her granddaughter, Natalie of Raleigh, NC. Barbara also leaves her sister Kathy Piotrowski and her husband Michael, her brothers Henry Fil and his wife Linda and Donald Fil and his wife Barbara, her sister-in-law, Beverly Adams and her husband Joseph and many dear friends. Barbara’s family and her many friends will sadly miss her generous and loving presence. In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her youngest son Jeffrey in 2016. The family will welcome guests on Saturday, April 6, 2019 from 10:30am to 12:00pm in the Remick and Gendron Funeral Home – Crematory, 811 Lafayette Rd., Hampton. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:30pm at Saint Theresa’s Catholic Church, 815 Central Rd. in Rye. Burial will be in the Center Cemetery, North Hampton. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome in Barbara’s name to the Friends of the North Hampton Public Library, 237 Atlantic Ave, North Hampton, NH 03862.
