Barbara Anne Humphrey

Hampton Falls - Barbara Anne (Conner) Humphrey, 90 of Hampton Falls, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 12, 2024, at Portsmouth Hospital surrounded by her loving and adoring family. She was the wife of the late William (Bill) Humphrey. Born in Newark, NJ, on July 16, 1933, Barbara was the first daughter of the late George and Muriel (Herbst) Conner. Raised and educated in Hillsdale, NJ, she attended Westwood High School and graduated in 1951. From there, Barbara went on to attend Tennessee Wesleyan College. She and Bill were high school sweethearts and the two were married on May 13, 1952, at the Hillsdale United Methodist Church. Bill enlisted in the Air Force and the next 20 years were spent traveling between England and the United States. After their retirement they spent half of each year in March, Cambridgeshire, England and Hampton Falls, NH. They considered both places home. Barbara had a passion for needlework. A long time member of the Embroiderers Guild of America, she obtained her Master Craftsman in counted thread. She was a skilled bobbin lace artisan and a talented seamstress. She made many a prom dress as well as her three daughter’s wedding dresses. She loved gardening. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother, and nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Barbara is survived by her children, Anne Hanson and her husband Lyle of Cedar Rapids, IA, Gail Paul of Hampton, NH and Laura Schley of Holden, MA. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Yurko of Wheeling, WV and her grandchildren, Robert Moffat, Kristin (Moffat) Wilson, Brian Paul, Eric Paul, Leslie (Paul) Faucher, Kelley Schley, and Sky (Emily) Schley, as well as 15 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. In addition to her parents, Barbara is predeceased by her husband of 65 years, William C. Humphrey and her sons-in-law Richard L. Paul and Scott M. Schley. Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Barbara for a memorial service on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 1PM in the United Methodist Church, 525 Lafayette Rd, Hampton, NH 03842. She will be laid to rest with her husband at High Street Cemetery later in the Spring.
