Barbara Harmon Sawyer

Hampton Falls – Barbara Harmon Sawyer, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 91, surrounded by her family. Barbara, a Valentine baby, was born in Needham, Massachusetts on February 14,1935 to Henry and Thelma (Larsen) Harmon. She graduated from Needham High School and earned an associate degree from Colby Junior College. Barbara shared 69 years of marriage with the love of her life, Jeremy Jason Sawyer, until his passing in April of 2025. They were married in March of 1956, while Jeremy served in the Army and was stationed in Elizabethtown, KY and Frankfurt, Germany. While living there, Jeremy and Barbara traveled to many of the surrounding countries, creating many memories and a love for travel. She was a busy stay-at-home mom who enjoyed many activities with her daughters. Eventually, she became the secretary at the Hampton Academy Junior High School; a job that she truly loved. After retiring, she enjoyed spending warm days with her family and friends at Square Pond in Maine. She loved sitting on the porch watching the activity at the beach, listening to the loons and waiting for someone to come in to play cards. Barbara supported her husband in the Masonic organization where they enjoyed extensive traveling and developed many special friendships over many years. She still found time to help whoever was in need, whether running errands for her elderly friends, babysitting her grandchildren or working in Priscilla & Jay’s greenhouse, “The Sprout House”. She was a very social, fun-loving person. She loved to knit, play cards, and watch sports, particularly college basketball. Aside from spending time with her family, she loved her special friends from the “Stitch & Bitch” group, her Hand & Foot card playing friends, and her Masonic friends (local, state and national). She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Hampton for over 60 years. She leaves behind 3 daughters, Susan (John) LeBlanc of Exeter, NH and Naples, FL, Lucinda (David) Jefferson of Hampton, Priscilla (Jay) Lord of Hampton Falls. She was the beloved “Nannie” to her 5 grandchildren, Christen LeBlanc, Miranda (Steve) Paquette, Rebecca (Peter) Frey, Timothy (Kayla) Jefferson, and Calvin (Tess) Lord, her five great grandchildren, Calvin, Declan, Cora, Emily and Ruth, and many grand-pups. She also leaves behind several brother and sister in-laws and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jeremy Sawyer, and her sister, Nancy Clark. Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 7 P.M. Friday, October 2, 2026, at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday October 3, 2026 at the First Congregational Church, 127 Winnacunnet Road, Hampton.
