Donald "Vic" Maccallum

Friendship, ME - Donald “Vic” Maccallum of Friendship, Maine, peacefully departed this world on August 9, 2026. He was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts on November 26,1951, the son of the late Donald Maccallum and Alyce Courtney. Vic’s life was a tapestry of love, laughter and dedication. He leaves behind his loving wife of 25 years, Barbara, whom he married on August 4, 2001. They built a beautiful home in Friendship and enjoyed exploring Maine, photography, gardening and their dogs… the “Mac Pack”. They had just purchased a new home and were headed back to the Eastern Shore of Maryland to be closer to family. When he married Barbara he became the proud father of Alyssa and Brianna. He is survived by Brianna Burkholder, her husband, Eddie and their children Kaylee and Noel. He is also survived by Alyssa Ranson, her husband Dylan, and their children Mikey and Casey, who will carry forward his legacy. His sister, Priscilla, and a host of cousins and friends will dearly miss his presence. He also leaves behind his faithful companion, Acadia. She spent countless hours on the back of his recliner. Dogs have always been a part of his life and we know he was greeted by the many dogs he has loved. Educated at West Nottingham Academy in Colora, Maryland, Vic graduated in 1970 before furthering his studies at Montgomery College, the University of Maryland, and The George Washington University. His career was marked by a profound commitment to public service and education. Vic served the City of Rockville Police Department as the Alternative Community Service Supervisor from 1977 - 1979. He became a beacon of guidance as the Dean of Students at his beloved West Nottingham Academy from 1979 - 1987, where his mentorship left an indelible mark on countless students. Vic’s career path led him to the Maryland Natural Resources Police (with an envious office on the water in downtown Annapolis) from 1987 - 2008, and eventually to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife as the Safety Coordinator from 2008 to 2017. He taught hunter education at Unity College in Maine. His dedication to safety and education was evident in the hunter safety programs he passionately led. He thoroughly enjoyed teaching his sister how to handle a variety of firearms. Outside of his professional life, Vic was a man of diverse interests. Vic enjoyed walking his dog, Acadia, along the back roads of Maine. He was an avid outdoorsman, finding peace in hunting, fishing, and capturing the beauty of nature through photography. This passion extended into his retirement, where he sold his photography and laser art, sharing his unique perspective with the world. Sports were another realm where Vic’s enthusiasm shone brightly. He was a devoted fan of the Red Sox, Orioles, Patriots, Ravens and Boston Bruins. He once dared to cheer on the Ravens over the Patriots at a local watering hole. It did not end well! Vic was known for his ever-present quick wit and sense of humor. He could be very candid and was never shy about expressing how he felt….just read his Facebook posts! Vic’s involvement with organizations like the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine and Knox County Fish and Game Association reflected his commitment to community and conservation. His legacy as an excellent mentor and friend will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
