James Lee Black

Hampton - James Lee Black passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was 82 years old. James “Jim” was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, son of John Black, who immigrated from Scotland and Arriadna (Little) Black in June of 1941. He grew up in Auburn, MA. He was predeceased by his younger sister, Janet Black Langevin. He graduated from Auburn High School in 1959 and went on to become the first in his family to go to college. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1963. He met his beloved wife, Penny, in 1964 and married in September of that same year. They recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Jim had a lengthy career in the food and beverage industry, having held multiple managerial and executive roles at a variety of companies, including Armor Dial, Ocean Spray, Table Talk Pies, Dean Foods, Juice Services and most recently at United Citrus. He excelled at sales and marketing and genuinely enjoyed working with people. Jim was an avid golfer and gardener [when he retired] and had many healthy years traveling with his beloved wife to favorite destinations such as Florida in the winter and Cape Cod in the summer. He was a spiritual soul, who was proud of being an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Westboro, MA for over 40 years prior to his relocation to Hampton, where he served in a variety of capacities, including President, worship assistant, and Finance Committee member. To him, his greatest source of pride and most important accomplishment in life was his family. Jim is survived by his wife, Penny Black and his three children: daughter, Kim Cushman and her husband, James Cushman of Northborough, MA; son, James Black Jr. and his wife, MaryAnn Black of Needham, MA; and daughter, Karen Hynick and her husband, Robert Hynick of Hampton, NH. He is also survived by his five grandchildren: Heather Budrey and her husband Nickolas Budrey of Hampton, NH; Jack Hynick of Hampton, NH; Zachary Wezniak of Northborough, MA; and Benjamin and Kate Black of Needham, MA. Calling hours will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 28th at Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH and a funeral service will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church 200 High Street, Hampton, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute in memory of James Black to support cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168.
