John B Fraser

North Hampton - John Barry Fraser, 86, of North Hampton, passed away at home on Thursday, June 20, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Monica (Conley) Fraser. Born in Rumford, ME, on May 25, 1938, John was the son of the late Donia and Ida (Gaudet) Fraser. Raised and educated in Rumford, John attended Stephen's High School and graduated in 1956. John went on to attend Catholic University in Washington D.C. He enlisted in the United States Air Force Officer's Training Program and was commissioned a second leiutenant in 1962, emerging as a a fully trained Air Force pilot. This was the beginning of his life in the skies. John flew as a pilot for North Eastern Airways until 1984 and for 25+ years as captain for Delta Air Lines. John was the youngest person in Maine to receive his pilot's license at the age of 15 in 1953. He spent much of his early life at Twitchell's Airfield in Lewiston, Maine. As a very young boy, he spent hours building and flying model airplanes. His objectives were achieved with his clear energy and dedication. John was a great advocate of the outdoors. If there was a hill to ski, a fish to catch, a ship to sail, or a hunting trip to experience, he was there. He made many good friends in these pursuits. John and Monica, his beloved wife, spent many winters in Park City, Utah, skiing in the company of friends, and in The Villages of Florida. Most of their summers were spent on the coast in Kennebunk, Maine, where they had a delightful home just across from the beach. The number of wonderful events for family and friends' number in the hundreds. Always, gatherings were hosted on the 4th of July when fireworks lit the sky in front of the assembled. John always chose to watch the fireworks on TV rather than fight the assembled crowds. John and Monica were necessary presences at the many holidays and celebrations of family. He will be greatly missed John is survived by his wife, Monica (Conley) Fraser of North Hampton, his siblings, Theodore Fraser of West Kennebunk, ME, and Cynthia Graves of West Kennebunk, ME. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John is predeceased by his brother-in-law Eugene Graves. Family and friends will gather to honor and remember John for a funeral Mass on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at St. Theresa’s Parish, 820 Central Rd, Rye Beach, NH 03871. Interment will be held privately, and John will be laid to rest with military honors at the New Hampshire State Veteran’s Cemetery in Boscawen.
